They began working in the early 1900s, at the same time as Walt Disney, but while Disney went on to become a household name, the Fleischers are barely remembered. Our film will change this, introducing a wide national audience to a family of brothers – Max, Dave, Lou, Joe, and Charlie – who created Fleischer Studios and a roster of animated characters who reflected the rough and tumble sensibilities of their own Jewish immigrant neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. “The Fleischer story involves the glory of American Jazz culture, union brawls on Broadway, gangsters, sex, and southern segregation,” says advisor Tom Sito. Advisor Jerry Beck adds, “It is a story of rags to riches – and then back to rags – leaving a legacy of iconic cinema and evergreen entertainment.” BUDGET Outright Request 600,000.00 Cost Sharing 90,000.00 Matching Request 0.00 Total Budget 690,000.00 Total NEH 600,000.00 GRANT ADMINISTRATOR Ms. -

Who Was Stan Lee?
Who Was Stan Lee? Stan Lee was born Stanley Martin Lieber in New York, USA, and he is best known for co-creating numerous fictional characters, such as Spider-Man, Hulk and Black Panther. Early Life Lee’s parents were Romanian-born Jewish immigrants and he lived with them and his brother, Larry, in a small apartment. Early Career Creative Success In 1961, Stan Lee worked closely with artist Jack Kirby to create the Fantastic Four. The characters were hugely popular with the public. Up until their creation, comic book characters had been perfect but Lee’s creations had flaws; they were more like real people, dealing with issues such as boredom and anger, except they also had superpowers. Superheroes Realising they were onto something, Lee and Kirby collaborated in the creation of many more characters, including: The X-Men Fans Peter Sanderson, a comics historian, wrote: “There was a new audience for comics now, and it wasn’t just the little kids that traditionally had read the books…Marvel was pioneering new methods of comics storytelling and characterisation.” Later Life In 1972, Lee left his job as editor at Marvel when he became the publisher of the company. In 1980, he set up an animation studio. Many Marvel characters had been turned into television series (Spider-Man first appeared in 1967) and Lee was keen to build on their many TV and movie opportunities. His characters have featured in several popular films in recent years. Awards Lee was given many awards during his lifetime, including the following: • The Inkpot Award in 1974 • A Saturn Award for Life Career in 2002 • A Scream Award at the Comic-Con Icon Awards in 2009 • Lifetime Achievement Award from the Visual Effects Society in 2012 Did You Know…? His Legacy “The father of “Stan…more than a Marvel“We’ve has lost made a so master of stories, you creativemany peoplegenius.” so always seemed like incredibly happy.” a master of living.”. -

FREE DEATHSTROKE: VOL 2 PDF Tony S. Daniel | 144 pages | 08 Mar 2016 | DC Comics | 9781401261207 | English | United States Deathstroke () Vol. 2: The Gospel of Slade - Comics by comiXology Pros: There are plenty of great, action packed moments from Deathstroke here. His fight against Lobo is entertaining. Cons: The plot feels generic the entire time. The narrative is inconsistent and changes suddenly and randomly. The finale is poor and fails to deliver the emotions it attempts to elicit. The artwork ranges from Deathstroke: Vol 2 to below average. Overall: Though it starts out alright, this volume ultimately devolves into a mess that gets Deathstroke: Vol 2 entertaining with every page. Deathstroke still has plenty of time to shine and there are moments where his epic stunts are great. However, the plot Deathstroke: Vol 2 lackluster to start out with and only gets worse as the volume progresses. This is a volume for those who Deathstroke: Vol 2 to see every fight Deathstroke participates in, not those looking to see him take part in a meaningful story. Deathstroke Vol. However, as the volume progresses, this otherwise passable narrative is muddled by random changes to characters and sudden shifts in plot. It would have been great to see the series continue Deathstroke: Vol 2 the average quality level from the first volume; unfortunately, Lobo Hunt is filled with too many strange happenings Deathstroke: Vol 2 be anything more than second-rate. Lobo Hunt starts out with a story that is consistently average in terms of quality. It sees Deathstroke take on numerous enemies in a fight to subdue Lobo, who is the most threatening enemy Deathstroke has faced thus far. -
