The schoools have met twice on the hardwood and both came in 1987-88. It was WSU’s first season as a division I team. The teams split the contests. WSU won 103-73 at home on January 16, 1987. UMES won a couple Whyweeks Raiders: later on January 28 by a score of 77-73.

The nickname and colors were chosen by a student vote in the early 1970’s when it was decided to start an athletic program. Many say the name and colors were influenced by popular NFL teams of time: Oakland Raiders and the Green Bay Packers. The logo has evolved through the years from different versions of a pirate and viking to the present day Wolf--the Raider of the Animal Kingdom. Wright State can boast everything from the inven- ters of flight, Wilbur and Orville Wright to the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls Nicole Scherzinger who attend WSU Brownellin the late 90’s.Wins:

Brad Brownell coached his 200th career game against Murray State as the Raiders clinched the Signed2008 San Early: Juan Shootout. He won his 150th against Central Michigan.

The early signing period yielded five committments for the Raiders on November 11. Signing early with the Raiders are Kegan Clark (Jeffersonville, IN), Cole Darling (Holt, MI), A.J. Pacher (Vandalia, OH), Cory Stanton (Springfield, TN). Matt Vest (Dayton, OH) has also been admitted to the University and plans to walk on for the 2010- Brown11 season. and Tabler Honored:

Todd Brown and Troy Tabler were each named to the Athletes In Action Classic All- Successtournament in Tournaments: team and Brown was named the Horizon League Player of the Week on Nov. 16.

WSU went 2-1 at the Athletes In Action Classic after the Raiders won three games in three days to win the 2008 San Juan Shootout. Todd Brown and Troy Tabler were named All-Tournament. WSU won the Dr. Pepper Classic two years in Chattanooga, TN. The Raiders went 2-1 three years ago at an LSU tournament, WSU Horizonis 9-2 for Leaguein-season Network tournaments TV: under Brownell.
