Welcome to the first edition of Futures to be published in this decade. And alongside this issue of your alumni magazine starts a whole new era of politics, fashions, trends, cultures, technologies, triumphs and heartaches... those moments in time that will never be forgotten, but no-one could ever have predicted. And how many of you – our graduating classes over the course of the last 6 decades - will be key figures in some of the events that the next ten years will be remembered for? Universities have always been leading forces in progressing society - and since our doors first opened nearly 60 years ago, our campuses have been instrumental – either directly or through some of the great minds and abilities of our alumni – in developments in areas such as transport, astronomy, pharmaceuticals, artificial intelligence, sport and the arts (to name A huge thank you to all of just a few).
