We will visit several national parks, learn about the wonderful conservation work being done there and visit with some of my good friends, human and gorilla. We will travel first to Murchison Falls National Park, where Winston Churchill proclaimed Uganda to be the “Pearl of Africa”! We will see the powerful and majestic waterfall where the White Nile pours over a 120-foot drop. On open top trucks and in comfortable boats, we will view iconic African savannah and wetland animals along with fantastic birdlife. After two nights at the lovely Paraa Lodge, we will move to Kibale Forest National Park where we will trek wild chimpanzees – this will be my first experience at Kibale! From there we head to Queen Elizabeth National park to experience plains, forests, rivers, and I hope we get a glimpse of the famous tree-climbing lions. We will stay in two wilderness camps and lodges along the way, each unique and comfortable. Finally, we will head to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to experience the incredible mountain gorillas, and to meet my dear friends and former colleagues the Ugandan Gorilla Doctors, who help to keep that population healthy. Oh, the mountain gorillas - no matter how many times I’ve visited gorilla groups over the years, each and every time I am struck by what a rare privilege it is that they allow us into their midst with such grace. Uganda was one of the places I spent a great deal of time during my years with Gorilla Doctors and have a special place in my heart. I can’t wait to share this beautiful country with you!
