In December 1964, Romsdal Alpebane A/S was established in Åndalsnes by Arne Barmann, a local who had emigrated to the US with the sole purpose of launching the cable car from Åndalsnes to Nesaksla. But strong political opposition killed the project. The second attempt was stopped due to lack of financing. The third attempt was prevented by local landowners. And now, at long last, the fourth attempt has made it happen.
