Previous meetings • This is the sides' first UEFA club competition meeting, and Swansea's first encounter with Swiss opponents. • St Gallen's only previous meetings with English Premier League opponents are fondly remembered; under Marcel Koller, the Swiss club eliminated Chelsea FC in the first round of the 2000/01 UEFA Cup, overturning a 1-0 deficit from the Stamford Bridge leg with a 2-0 win in St Gallen. • Swansea are based in Wales but qualified for the UEFA Europa League as winners of the English League Cup. Only four UEFA club competition games have been played between Welsh and Swiss sides, with the Welsh having slightly the better of them – W2 D1 L1 (W2 D0 L0 at home – W0 D1 L1 in Switzerland). Match background • Prior to this season, Swansea had not played in Europe since the 1991/92 European Cup Winners' Cup, when they were beaten 10-1 on aggregate by AS Monaco FC in the first round. Back then, they qualified as Welsh Cup holders. • Their 3-0 win at Valencia CF on matchday one was their first UEFA Cup or UEFA Europa League away victory and their second most emphatic victory on their travels in UEFA club competition, after a 5-0 win at Maltese side Sliema Wanderers FC in the 1982/83 European Cup Winners' Cup. • St Gallen last played in this competition when they were eliminated in the second round of the 2001/02 UEFA Cup by SC Freiburg. • The Swiss side also made a great start in Group A; their 2-0 victory against FC Kuban Krasnodar matched their biggest previous home win in this competition, the aforementioned success against Chelsea. Team facts • On matchday one of the UEFA Champions League, FC Basel 1893 beat Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge to become the first Swiss club to win a European away game against English league opponents in 20 visits (D6 L14) since FC Luzern beat Tottenham Hotspur FC 2-0 in a 1995 UEFA Intertoto Cup fixture. • St Gallen's Croatian midfielder Ivan Martić turns 23 on the eve of the match against Swansea. • St Gallen forward Alhassane Keita nominally played under Swansea manager Michael Laudrup – and alongside midfielder Jonathan De Guzmán – at RCD Mallorca in the 2010/11 season, though the trio barely saw each other as Keita was loaned out to Real Valladolid CF and then Saudi Arabian side Al-Shabab FC. Coach information • Michael Laudrup's first season in south Wales ended with Swansea winning the first major English trophy in their history – the 2012/13 League Cup. The playmaker's career haul included the 1991/92 European Champions' Club Cup with FC Barcelona and seven league titles: one apiece with Juventus, Real Madrid CF and AFC Ajax, and four with Barça. As a coach, he won a Danish title with Brøndby IF and took unfashionable Getafe CF to the 2007/08 UEFA Cup quarter-finals. • St Gallen coach Jeff Saibene is the first Luxembourger to lead a club in a major UEFA club competition group stage. Having moved abroad as a teenager to sign for R. Standard de Liège, the midfielder left three years later for Switzerland, where he spent much of his career. After coaching spells at FC Thun and FC Aarau, he joined St Gallen in March 2011, leading them back to the top division in his first full season and to third place in his second. 3 Swansea City AFC - FC St Gallen Thursday 3 October 2013 - 21.05CET, (20.05 local time) Match press kit Swansea Stadium, Swansea Team facts Swansea City AFC Formed: 1928 Nickname: The Swans UEFA club competition honours • None Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League Cup: 1 (2013) Welsh Cup: 10 (1991) Ten-year record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2012/13: did not take part in UEFA competition 2011/12: did not take part in UEFA competition 2010/11: did not take part in UEFA competition 2009/10: did not take part in UEFA competition 2008/09: did not take part in UEFA competition 2007/08: did not take part in UEFA competition 2006/07: did not take part in UEFA competition 2005/06: did not take part in UEFA competition 2004/05: did not take part in UEFA competition 2003/04: did not take part in UEFA competition Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 12-0: Swansea v Sliema Wanderers FC 15/09/82, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup first round first leg • Biggest away win 0-5: Sliema Wanderers FC v Swansea 29/09/82, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup first round second leg • Heaviest home defeat 1-2: Swansea v AS Monaco FC 17/09/91, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup first round first leg 0-1: Swansea v Paris Saint-Germain FC 20/10/82, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup second round first leg 0-1: Swansea v 1. SWANSEA CITY SUPPORTERS TRUST BOARD MEETING MINUTES Minutes of the Board Meeting held on Monday, 7th September 2015 at the Landore Academy, Swansea commencing at 5.30pm. Present: Jim White, Huw Cooze, Barbara Cook, Stuart Macdonald, Cath Dyer, Duncan Thomas, Alan Lewis, Viv Brooks, Andy Godden, Ian James, Will Morris, Nigel Hamer (Secretary). Apologies: Phil Sumbler, Viv Williams, Ron Knuszka. The Minutes of the meeting held on the 3rd August, 2015 were approved. Supporter Director Report: HC submitted bullet points of his involvements over the past month: • Gave us a background of where we are with regards to the Stadium, Landlords consent to build the extension is being sought, it is a delicate situation and the next few months should see progress. • The Trust Board were updated on all Summer recruitment including negotiated new contracts. Club Chairman Huw Jenkins has had a busy few months and in his words – the football industry is changing, we now have to deal with Agents/Consultants and newly called Intermediaries, it has made this summer the hardest since we joined the Premier League. • The Premier League have agreed to hold a Disability Access Officer/Supporter Liaison Officer meeting at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday/Wednesday 13th/14th October. This is a feather in our cap as the premier League tend to hold these meetings in London or Manchester. • Set up a presentation to the Club Board by the Community Trust, there was also an update from the Academy, the Club Board were extremely grateful of the work being undertaken by both departments which is fantastic for the Community and Youth football which helps to spread the name of Swansea City throughout Wales by getting out into the Community and utilising our 20 Development Centres.
