FISD High School Academic Guide and Course Catalog 2020-2021 “Our mission is to know every student by name and need.” To Students and Families: This Academic Guide & Course Catalog has been developed to provide important information for students. It will assist students and families in making wise, informed decisions concerning programs and course choices throughout your high school years. The goal of Frisco Independent School District is to prepare students as thoroughly as possible for the next phase of their lives. This guide contains important information to help direct the student in making informed decisions throughout high school: ■ Section I: Academic Guide contains information on grade classifications, graduation programs, class rank, academic programming, transcripts, and other academic topics. ■ Section II: Course Catalog lists the courses that our high schools generally make available to students. However, it should be noted that not all of the courses listed are offered every year at every high school. Sufficient numbers of student requests for specific courses, staffing, and other factors impact whether or not a course is scheduled. All course offerings are subject to change. Please refer to the counseling office at your respective high school for more detailed information during the course selection process. Your school counselors and other campus staff provide invaluable insight and guidance in your decision-making processes. The Academic Guide is a general reference guide only and should not be considered comprehensive. Please be aware that it is not a complete statement of all policies, procedures, or rules that may be applicable in a given circumstance. House Bill 5 established a single graduation program, the Foundation High School Program (FHSP). Students will also have the opportunity to build on the FHSP by earning Endorsements, Performance Acknowledgements, and a Distinguished Level of Achievement. Students will need to declare their preferred endorsement area, in writing, by the beginning of their 9th grade year. Trlicek is the first Gatorade Texas Softball Player of the Year to be chosen from Hallettsville High School. The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Trlicek as Texas’ best high school softball player. Now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year award to be announced in June, Trlicek joins an elite alumni association of past state softball award-winners, including Catherine Osterman (2000-01, Cy Spring High School, Texas), Kelsey Stewart (2009-10, Arkansas City High School, Kan.), Carley Hoover (2012-13 D.W. This booklet is organized around the eight steps featured in the AchieveTexas Implementation Guide. Using the T Lubbock ISD color-coded map to the right, readers can find specific examples of Texas school districts that have Page 36 implemented the eight steps. The goal of the booklet is to provide educators and other AchieveTexas stakeholders around the state with step-specific, real-world examples of what their colleagues are Levelland ISD Page 23 doing to fulfill each step by featuring perspectives from students, counselors, and community partners. The core of AchieveTexas is the 16 career clusters (see back cover) that are divided into 122 programs of study. The programs of study provide a model of the courses and extended learning opportunities that secondary students should experience in order to prepare for more education or employment in a specific career. This guide is designed to spread the word about what schools are STEP 5: doing in implementing AchieveTexas, so that these best practices can spread across the state. It will assist students and families in making wise, informed decisions concerning programs and course choices throughout your high school years. The goal of Frisco Independent School District is to prepare students as thoroughly as possible for the next phase of their lives. This guide contains important information to help direct the student in making informed decisions throughout high school: ■ Section I: Academic Guide contains information on grade classifications, graduation programs, class rank, academic programming, transcripts, and other academic topics. ■ Section II: Course Catalog lists the courses that our high schools generally make available to students. However, it should be noted that not all of the courses listed are offered every year at every high school.
