Proposals for changes to league regulations and competition structures should be submitted to League Secretary Karen Prince by December 31. There will not be a full agenda, similar to that of a regular committee meeting, but it is also hoped that Small Grants applications can be considered at the meeting, and that the Knockout Cup draws can also be made. There are no changes to the list of League Officers for the 2016/17 year. Entries are also sought for the CWCL’s 2017 Winter Indoor League. Clubs can choose to enter the Premier League – for those seeking to play a high standard of competitive cricket, or the Cricket League - for those wishing to continue to play cricket during the winter months and have fun. The matches will take place at Lymm Leisure Centre from 1400 to 1700 on the following Sundays: January 29 February 12 & 26 March 12 & 26 April 9 Teams will not be expected to play on every date and there is potential to add more dates if demand there is a high number of teams entering the league. A team will consist of six players and a squad of ten players will be the maximum permitted. Each match will have a time slot of 60 minutes meaning that each team will have 12 overs of batting time (4 overs per pair). It may be the case that some teams will play two or three matches back to back. A deposit of £18 per team must be paid before the start date of the league. Each game also will cost £18, payable on the day to the umpire. Interested clubs should reply by December 16 to Jessica Lewis, the Development and Coaching Officer- Women and Girls at the Cheshire Cricket Board via 07429164870 / [email protected] ENGLAND WOMEN Sophie Ecclestone’s amazing year continues as she makes the shortlist of 10 for the BBC Young Sports Personality award. A final shortlist of three will be announced on December 8, and the winner will be announced on the Sports Personality TV show on December 18. In Game 1 of the ODI Series in Jamaica, England mustered only 149 and the West Indies had made an excellent start at 53-0. However, Sophie Ecclestone then removed both openers in a spell of 2-28 in nine overs with three maidens. Her fellow spinners and pace bowler Katherine Brunt then completed the job to bowl their opponents out for 144. Game 2 saw West Indies all out for 148, with Alex Hartley taking 4-31. Sophie Ecclestone’s figures were 1-20 in five overs. England lost after collapsing from 107-4 to 110 in reply. Sophie Ecclestone did not play again in the series after England opted to select three spinners, not four, once the action moved to the Test ground at Sabina Park. England found some batting form in Game 3 as Lauren Winfield made 79 and Natalie Sciver 58 in a total of 220. West Indies could only reply with 108. England’s batting let them down again in Game 4 as the West Indies won to set up a series decider. Chasing 224, England reached 136-1, with fifties for Winfield and Tammy Beaumont, before collapsing to 181 all out. Hartley (4-24) and Brunt (3-35) were again the pick of the bowlers in Game 5 as the West Indies were all out for 155. England got home, and clinched the series, with five wickets and all of 11 overs in hand. Sciver finished 58 not out. Sophie Ecclestone missed last month’s tour of Sri Lanka due to school commitments, but did attend the preparation camp in Abu Dhabi. Lancashire Thunder and Bramhall CC’s Emma Lamb, one of the few non-international English players to shine with the bat in the Super League, was called up to the senior squad for the first time, but did not play in any of the matches. Key pace bowler Anya Shrubsole remains sidelined with injury, allowing Essex and Loughborough Lightning seamer Beth Langston to make her ODI debut having previously only played T20 for England. Fran Wilson was recalled after missing out in the West Indies. In Game 1 in Sri Lanka England romped to an eight wicket win with all of 21 overs to spare. Langston took 1-23 as Sri Lanka managed 168-7, then 33 from Winfield, 41 from Beaumont, 45 not out from Heather Knight and an unbeaten 47 from Sciver completed the victory. England continued to score quickly in Sri Lanka as they racked up 295 in 50 overs in Game 2, with half centuries for Winfield, Knight and Sciver, and Sri Lanka could only reply with 173. England ensured series victory in Game 3, despite missing captain Knight and key pace bowler Brunt with injury. Stand-in captain Danielle Hazell took 2-24 in 10 overs as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 161, then England raced to a five-wicket win inside 30 overs. Beaumont smashed 78 from 79 deliveries with three sixes. England completed a 4-0 series whitewash in Game 4, but were very grateful that their lower order batting came good in the final match. Nat Sciver (77) and Danielle Hazell (45) led the recovery from 58-6 to 240-9 in the England innings. Sri Lanka could only manage 78 in reply, with Laura Marsh claiming figures of 4-21. Despite the retirement of Charlotte Edwards and the continued absence of experienced batsman/keeper Sarah Taylor, England managed to win all six of their international series in 2016. WOMEN’S SUPER LEAGUE The ECB has shelved plans to expand the Super League to 50 over cricket in 2017. The Super League will thus continue as a T20 competition only, with the County Championship continuing to provide the main domestic 50 over cricket. WISHING ALL READERS OF THE DAZZLER A VERY MERRY FESTIVE SEASON! SEE YOU IN 2017! .
