PETER HELLIAR Comedian/Writer/Director/Broadcaster/Presenter PETER HELLIAR Comedian/Writer/Director/Broadcaster/Presenter Pete first came to the nation’s attention in 1999 as a cast member of Rove, Rove McManus’ ill-fated first series on the Nine Network. When the show went to Network TEN in 2000, Pete went with it, becoming an integral part of the Logie Award winning variety show until it wound up at the end of 2009 after ten historic years on Australian TV. In 2003, Pete took on Australian Rules football with After The Game, which became Before The Game in 2004. The following year Pete created Bryan Strauchan, Collingwood rookie and instant superstar. “Strauchanie” created an AFL sensation, picking up the code’s Personality Of The Year Award, getting his own car in the Grand Final Parade, and even being immortalised on his own official AFL Footy Card and winning Best On Ground at the 2009 EJ Whitten match. All the while Pete has been working as a stand up, touring to sold-out houses in Australia and New Zealand as well as hosting his own radio shows for Triple M and 2Day-FM and guesting regularly on Nova. Writing has always been at the centre of everything Pete has done as a comedian. After Rove was cancelled by the Nine Network in 1999, he started work on some film ideas, and in 2009 Pete found himself on the set of his very own feature film. In 2010 I Love You Too, produced by Princess Pictures and starring Brendan Cowell, Peter Dinklage, Yvonne Strahovski and Megan Gale was released. Pete also created It’s A Date, a comedy series which aired on the ABC in the second half of 2013. The series, produced by Princess Pictures, was nominated for an AACTA award and warmly received by the ABC audience. A second season of It’s A Date brought all-new awkward, beautiful, funny, sad dating scenarios into our lounge rooms in October 2014. As well as writing and co-producing, Pete turned his hand to acting in and directing several episodes across both series. 2014 proved to be a super-busy year for Pete. In addition to writing, directing and co-producing IAD2, he joined the desk at The Project as a full time co-host, replacing one of his best mates, Dave Hughes. Alongside his television commitments with The Project, Pete continues to tour the country with his live stand-up shows each year, Pete toured around Australia and New Zealand in 2016 with his show One Hot Mess, including performing at the Opera House as part of Just for Laughs Sydney and culminated in Pete recording the show as a stand-up special for Channel Ten in 2017. He also featured in the Warner Bros animated movie Storks, voicing a character alongside Andy Samberg, Jennifer Anniston and Kelsey Grammer. In 2017, he was still as busy as ever. For his work on The Project, Pete was nominated for the most prestigious prize in Australian entertainment, the Gold Logie for Best Personality on Australian Television. He also became a bestselling author with the release of his debut Frankie Fish and the Sonic Suitcase – which was the #1 selling children’s book in Australia, and hosted a brand new comedy game show for Network TEN, CRAM! And there is no slowly down in 2018 – Pete’s new stand up show Big Boy Pants toured to towns and cities around Australia, including all major comedy festivals. He also continues to host the multi-awarding winning The Project, writing and releasing more books in the hit Frankie Fish series, and has just completed filming a new TV show he has developed and starred in with Princess Pictures for Network TEN – How To Stay Married. Just don’t tell Pete he looks tired. “Give Peter Helliar a stage, a microphone, some bright lights and a captive audience and he shows why he is one of the nation’s favourite comedians” Sunday Mail “Wonderful… a bizarre revelation” The Age, Melbourne “Peter Helliar makes the difficult business of being funny look dead easy. ” Adelaide Advertiser Television 2014-18 Network TEN The Project (full-time co-host) 2018 Network TEN The Sunday Project (Fill in Co-Host) 2014-18 Network TEN Have You Been Paying Attention? They’ll finally return to their broadcasting birth place at The Comedy Channel with THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW. So what’s on the cards for the new show? Each week the boys will front up before a live studio audience with their unique take on anything and everything. From what’s happening in the world of news to the big questions: Can you deep fry a watermelon? On THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW, celebrities will make regular guest appearances from in-studio interviews to recorded comedy pieces to show you a side of them never before seen. Into the mix will go plenty of studio audience interaction and more mayhem and stupidity than is legal in three states. THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW will allow nobody to be immune from their parodies and sketch comedy. Finally, as Merrick and Rosso are keen to point out, “Put simply, the show is Morcambe and Wise meets The Star Wars Christmas Special at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting during The French Renaissance… on a weeknight.” Buckle up Australia, for a riotous half hour of THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW.

Bond Law Review Volume 23 | Issue 1 Article 3 2011 The nI ternational World of Sport and the Liability for Off-Field Indiscretions Chris Davies Follow this and additional works at: http://epublications.bond.edu.au/blr This Article is brought to you by the Faculty of Law at ePublications@bond. It has been accepted for inclusion in Bond Law Review by an authorized administrator of ePublications@bond. For more information, please contact Bond University's Repository Coordinator. The nI ternational World of Sport and the Liability for Off-Field Indiscretions Abstract The recent terminations of the contracts of NRL player, Joel Monaghan and the AFL’s Brendan Fevola, for off-field indiscretions, has highlighted the significance of the bringing the game into disrepute clauses contained in standard player contracts. Tiger Woods’ extra-marital affairs received extensive world wide media attention, and the outcome of this negative coverage was the loss of millions of dollars in sponsorship deals. This indicates that such contracts can be terminated on the basis that a sportsperson’s behaviour was having a negative impact on the sponsor’s image. It is for the same reason that sponsors have put pressure on the governing bodies of team sports to take appropriate action for off-field indiscretions. The Court of Arbitration in D’Arcy v Australian Olympic Committee, has also held that a competitor’s behaviour in an incident where criminal charges were laid, may, in itself be sufficient to bring a sport, or themselves, into disrepute, regardless of whether the competitor is later found guilty or innocent.

He stood out as early as Under 10’s at his local footy club, the Canterbury Cobras, and was an elite junior right throughout his teens, debuting for the Oakleigh Chargers in the Under 18 competition just a month after his 16th birthday. Coming from a tight knit family with two sisters, he studied at Carey Grammar and handled the growing expectations around his football in 2019 with apparent ease as he starred in premierships for his school and the Chargers, while also dominating for Vic Metro at the NAB Under 18 Championships to earn All Australian selection. Rowell was an unbackable favourite to be selected at pick 1 in the 2019 NAB National Draft and the Gold Coast Suns couldn’t call his name quickly enough. Matt made an immediate impact at AFL level, seamlessly slotting into the Gold Coast program and earning an opening round AFL debut in 2020.
