CAPÍTULO 3 COISAS , O PRIMEIRO LP 3.1. Antecedentes 3.1.1. Pixinguinha Nas palavras de Nei LOPES (2001), Moacir Santos produziu “a música popular mais sofisticada e ao mesmo tempo mais enraizada nas tradições afro-brasileiras”. É fundamental observar os antecedentes dessa obra, que contém uma das mais marcantes e originais sonoridades já construídas no Brasil. Apoiado na imanente herança cultural afro-brasileira e em pesquisas sobre a origem dessa herança, Moacir Santos justapôs, com domínio formal de composição, os elementos da polirritmia africana à instrumentação jazzística das big bands , caminho que já vinha sendo traçado por Pixinguinha (Alfredo da Rocha Vianna Filho, 1897-1973) desde os anos 1920, com a criação dos Oito Batutas (CABRAL, 1997). Um exemplo conhecido de simbiose entre tradições culturais na obra de Pixinguinha são os chamados lundus-africanos “Yaô”, “Benguelê”, “Festa de Nanã” e “Iemanjá”, em versão original do autor para solista vocal e orquestra de sopros 1.
