The Indiana State defense held Western Illinois to just Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line Michael Switzer 1-of-15 on third down during a Homecoming win. Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Brad Wilson Special Teams Coordinator Kevin Abrams SYCAMORES TURN TO WILDERMAN AT QUARTERBACK Wide Receivers/Pass Game Coordinator Joe Hastings Redshirt sophomore Kurtis Wilderman made his first career start at quarterback against No. 3 South Dakota in week Cornerbacks Deon Broomfield eight. The Wadesville, Indiana product passed for 196 yards on 19-of-31 attempts, including a pair of touchdowns. The Sycamores currently rank 8th nationally and tops in the MVFC in fewest penalties with just 33 on the GoSycamores.com season. The Sycamores finished 2017 and 2018 ranked 19th and 27th respectively in fewest penalties. Gronowski also earned the league's Freshman and Newcomer of the Year honors. Jared Brinkman of UNI has been named MVFC Defensive Player of the Year, And coach Bobby Petrino of Missouri State has been tabbed MVFC Coach of the Year. Gronowski, a Jerry Rice Award finalist, follows NDSU's Trey Lance (2019) as the only league freshmen to earn the MVFC's top offensive honor, and he's the fifth freshman to win both the league's Freshman and Newcomer of the Year honors. Previ- ous first-year players to sweep those two awards include QB Sawyer Kollmorgen (UNI) in 2012, RB Martin Ruiz (YSU) in 2013, LB Jabril Cox (NDSU) in 2017, and QB Trey Lance (NDSU) in 2019. Ryan Boyle of Indiana State earned the Newcomer of theYear honor, and Pierre Strong Jr. of South Dakota State was voted Freshman of the Year. Coach Curt Mallory has been tabbed "Bruce Craddock" MVFC Coach of the Year. Stick is the second Bison to earn MVFC Offensive Player of the Year honors (Brock Jensen, 2013). Two previous NDSU student-athletes (DB Marcus Williams in 2012 and DE Kyle Emanuel in 2014) have been voted as the league's top defender, and Cox is the first sophomore Defensive Player of the Year in the league since 2002 (Boomer Grigsby of Illinois State).
