Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association Announces Adam Jones As Brooks Robinson Community Service Award Winner for 2015 Legends for Youth Dinner DATE: October 27, 2015 For Immediate Release Contact: Nikki Warner Director of Communications [email protected], (719) 477-1870 x. 105 Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association Announces Adam Jones as Brooks Robinson Community Service Award Winner for 2015 Legends for Youth Dinner Colorado Springs, CO – The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) is pleased to announce that Baltimore Orioles centerfielder Adam Jones will be honored with the 2015 Brooks Robinson Community Service Award at the 16th Annual Legends for Youth Dinner in New York City on Tuesday, November 10 at Capitale. The Brooks Robinson Community Service Award is given annually by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association to a current or former Major Leaguer. The recipient’s community service exemplifies the unselfish and humble attitude of Brooks Robinson, bettering the lives of the youth in his community. The award is given in honor of the dedication Robinson has shown to young people across the country through his support of the Legends for Youth Clinic series and the MLBPAA since its inception in 1982. Previous winners include Clint Hurdle, Jamie Moyer, Jim Thome and Tim Wakefield. Jones has compiled numerous awards so far in his career, including five All-Star appearances, Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Awards and three team Heart and Hustle Awards, though his off-field charitable work has garnered just as much respect in the community. Jones has tirelessly donated his time and resources to enhancing the experience of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore over his career in the city. Along with his endorsement of the Boys and Girls Club, Jones has substantial involvement in the Orioles Adam Jones to be honored with Brooks Robinson Community Service Award for his Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) youth outreach charitable contributions to the Baltimore community. Jones also serves as a member of the Baseball Assistance Team Board of Directors. The Legends for Youth Dinner aims to recognize former Major League players for their accomplishments on the diamond coupled with their off-the-field contributions to communities across the nation. Lifetime Achievement Awards will be presented to honorees Carl Erskine and Bobby Valentine, and the national Heart and Hustle Award will be given as well. The MLBPAA allocates proceeds from the event to the Legends for Youth Baseball Clinic series. The Legends for Youth program is a series of free baseball clinics designed to provide children with positive role models, teach young players baseball fundamentals and promote the game of baseball. In Bobby, we have the right man to lead the Red Sox.” A veteran of more than 40 years in professional baseball, Valentine has previously served parts of 15 seasons as a Major League manager with the Texas Rangers (1985-92) and New York Mets (1996-2002), compiling a 1,117-1,072 (.510) record. He ranks fourth among active managers in games and fifth in wins. The Stamford, CT native becomes the sixth Red Sox manager born in New England and the second from Connecticut, joining Meriden’s Jack Barry, who managed the club in 1917.
