It seems to me that all those who was wearing some article of clothing—a hat, a tee or polo shirt, served are proud of their service in whichever branch of the military whatever—indicating that person is a Marine! It started my old brain they were in, but it appears to me that the United States Marine stirring—why is that? I also think that is another reason some folks that indicate previous service but not usually a crowd of them seem to get the impression that we Marines think we are “hot stuff,” in one group at the same time. I will say that we all are proud of, but I don’t think we feel that way. We just simply take pride in who we and show respect to, all those who have served, and we usually are and what we do! NATIONAL PRESIDENT, MCLA EVELYN JOPPA “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much!”

—Helen Keller MARINES: Happy New Year! As we embark on League Auxiliary Activities a new year, may we be ever thankful for our free- dom and the family time we have enjoyed over the holidays. One of the joys of these holidays is to see the work done by the League and the Auxiliary to help others. Just look around and see the joy given! It was an honor and a privilege to attend the cer- emony at Arlington on Veterans Day as the Nation- al President. I was accompanied to this most hum- bling event by my Chief of Staff, PNP Karen Aune, National Flag Bearer, Carrie McIntosh and Nation- al Banner Bearer, Nila Caulder. Thank you, ladies. Let us renew our efforts to retain and recruit members to strengthen our wonderful organization. Our strength lies with working together to help our Marines, veterans and community. Our units across this great nation contin- ue to carry out the principles and ideals set forth by our first leaders. The two newest units, Gen. Roy S. Geiger Unit, FL, and the PNP Norma A. Liner Unit, LA, have experienced great encouragement from their detach- ments. Thank you, Marines! Both units have already recruited new members. It is the progress of working together that binds our units together. Take time to look at the new appearance of the brochure, “What is the Marine Corps League Auxiliary?” The information is the same, with a new brighter look. Thank you, Marti Kline. The 2020 Mid-Winter Conference will be held in Norfolk, VA, at the Sher- aton Norfolk Waterside Hotel on February 27–29. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend. This is your opportunity to see the National Staff in action. Please consider an ad from your unit to help offset the cost of this important event. Our hearts and prayers go out to those who have experienced hard times. May we always be mindful of the needs of our members and their families. Thank you for all that you do every day! Please remember our servicemen and servicewomen daily as they preserve our freedom. We owe them a debt of gratitude that we cannot repay. In closing, the 2020 National Mid-Winter Conference is February 27–29 in Norfolk, VA, at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel. The deadline for room reservations is January 28, so make sure you have reserved your room. The Mid-Winter Conference is a business meet- ing and an excellent opportunity for members and elected officers of detachments and departments to become more familiar with the business side of the MCL. I hope that all Southeast Division members, and especially the detachment and department officers, will attend the 2020 South- east Division Conference to be held at the Courtyard by Marriott in Warner Robins, GA, March 26–29. Death Notification Policy Headquarters Marine Corps League receives frequent calls regarding the passing away of members. Calls vary from loved ones who wish to stop the magazine delivery to detachment members looking to help. The policy has been that detachment chaplains fill out, sign and submit a death notification form to their respective department chaplains who then forward it on to Headquarters’ membership department. This policy has not changed but will be better adhered-to in the future. It is the only way a person’s name will appear in the TAPS section of Semper Fi magazine.
