Canon Tony Tucker The Rectory, 6 Rectory Lane, Claypole, NG23 5BH 01636 921161 07939897118 From the Rural Dean I am grateful for these brief notes based upon the lifting of restrictions. Within the Church we believe that everyone is known and loved individually by God and that as many members within one body we are called to be responsible to and for one another, respecting the more vulnerable whose suffering is our suffering (1 Cor 12:12-27). The move to step 4 means we are being asked to take even more personal responsibility around coronavirus than when we were compelled to adhere to Government restrictions. In every situation there is likely to be a range of feeling about risk, both to ourselves and to others, that will need to be accommodated by our churches in a way appropriate to each of them. There are no restrictions on choirs and music groups, whether amateur or professional, or on congregational singing. There will no longer be restrictions on group sizes for attending communal worship. Can we open as a visitor attraction? Yes Can we sing and perform music in church? Yes, However, some activities can also increase the risk of catching or passing on coronavirus. This happens where people are doing activities which generate more particles as they breathe heavily, such as singing or raising their voices. The risk is greatest where these activities take place when people are in close contact with others indoors, particularly in poorly ventilated spaces. In these situations where there is a higher risk of catching or passing on the virus, we advise additional precautions should be considered eg by improving ventilation, using a larger space, reducing the number of participants, shortening the duration of activity and wearing face coverings. I love driving along and seeing our local churches (Foston and Sedgebrook) lit up, as a visible reminder of God’s presence in our community. For just £7 you can have the church floodlit for an evening (8-11pm) of your choice. This might be to celebrate a birthday, celebration, or to remember someone. Foston please contact: Lucy Bliss 01400 282661 For Sedgebrook please contact: Malcolm Stuart 01949 842231 CLLR ALEXANDER MAUGHAN LCC UPDATE SUMMER 2021 Further investment in Highway maintenance We are proposing to invest an additional £10m in Highway maintenance this year, which comes in addition to the £12.3m we invested from reserves to make good the 25% reduction from Government for 2021/22. This funding takes the total highways maintenance budget to £61m this year. The investment has been possible because the cost of delivering council services was less than forecast last year. We will be targeting the additional funds on our B roads and minor roads, and where possible we will be rebuilding and resurfacing and not just filling potholes. Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue rolls out £8m of new Engines and Equipment The last of 33 new Scania appliances was recently delivered to Waddington, marking the end of an £8m roll out of new fire engines and equipment put into service across Lincolnshire. The new equipment not only keeps our communities safer, but also keeps our firefighters safer, as our fire crews in Lincolnshire will be some of the best equipped in the UK. Cycle scheme approved for Long Bennington The County Council has approved a cycle scheme for Main Road, Long Bennington, which will be accompanied by a series of traffic no waiting restrictions, and prohibit parking of HGVs at the north end of the village. The scheme will link up Main Road, from Westborough Lane, northwards to the cycle path that runs from the A1. The proposals were developed in close consultation with the Parish Council and SPFMC, and subject to a full public consultation in March 2021 before a decision was made.
