Motor Vehicle crime: Opportunity for Vehicles Security Systems In the last 8 years, vehicles owners in the country have seen a sustained evolution in the robbery of cars. Motor Vehicle theft is a daily crime that is watched on the news or read on the newspapers. However, even it seems to be another person’s matter, it is a reality that is worrying both the Chilean authorities as well as vehicles users in the country. According to the department of Statistics of the Chilean Insurance Association A.G. (AACH) in 2010, 5,973 vehicles were stolen. In 2011, this figure increased to 7,681 and then to 8,461 in 2012. For the following year, there was a drop to 7,85 that raise again to 9,022 in 2014 and keep increasing to 9,762 in 2015. At the same time, Vitacura (a commune/district of Santiago ‘capital) is nowadays inviting all its residences to register themselves, to allow the Municipality to install a GPS Tracking system with an anti-carjacking in all cars with a cost of US$4.- monthly approx. per vehicle.
