The photo on the right features Fred Cartier, Deborah Jones Barrow (WAMC), Dave Wright The meeting at Cancun’s started at 7:30 am with Dave Wright, VP, serving as the chair. Following the pledge, four-way test, and a blessing by Mike Shafer, we shared breakfast. Then Linda and Carl gave a glowing report on the pie baking by our Interact club, noting that over 40 pies were prepared by the teams. There were more boys than girls in the kitchen and the club left the space immaculate. Linda noted that the apples were given by Kenny Migliorelli – Granny Smiths and Macouns. Fred introduced Deborah Barrow, of WAMC, to the group. Deborah has had a residence in Red Hook since 1983 and has been a fulltime resident since 2011. When she became a fulltime resident she began fundraising for WAMC. She emphasized the increasing importance of radio, particularly public radio, in disseminating the news. Noting that 1800 newspapers have closed in recent years. She said that WAMC now covers a huge swatch of the area from Mount Kisco to Plattsburg and from Cooperstown to Mid-Massachusetts. Keeping up with new technologies, they also have developed live streams for computer access, podcasts of special interest and numerous other outlets. Personally, Deborah has developed a number of new sponsors, including Hummingbird Jewellers and Nuvance Health Insurance. She reviewed their impressive lineup of programming and purchases of programs from NPR. She noted that their Lock Box initiative reduces on air fundraising to four days per year to reach their $1million per quarter requirements. Since 2016, their listeners have increased 20%. Happy $ collected = $35! Please note that November 26, 2019 will be a regular meeting and Carl Dowden will host a visit from Past District Governor Louis Turbin. Maxwell upon the occasion of his designation for special honor by the Ulster Community College Foun- dation at its 2009 Gala Recognition Dinner WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character who have inspired and brought pride to our majestic Empire State with their strong contributions to the community and model citizenship; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long- standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Walter C. Maxwell upon the occasion of his designation for special honor by the Ulster Community College Foundation at its 2009 Gala Recognition Dinner at the Hillside Manor in Kingston, New York; and WHEREAS, Born in 1940 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, Walter C. Maxwell graduated from Ellenville High School in 1959, and spent the next four years in the United States Air Force; and WHEREAS, After leaving the United States Air Force in 1963, Walter C. Eleven club members attended including Linda Greenblatt, Fred Cartier, Jonah Triebwasser, Tim Lynch, Carl Dowden, Dave Wright, Jennifer Van Voorhis and Susan Simon, Bud Weaver, Rob Latimer and Chris Chale. The meeting started with the pledge, the Four-Way test and a blessing by Hon. Jonah Triebwasser. Jennifer Van Voorhis o Thank you to everyone that participated in our celebration February 23rd. It was fun and very informational. o She also expressed gratitude to the members that helped with the Feb 27th food drive from shoveling snow, carrying bags of groceries to helping with the sorting of can goods. Through efforts of social media, we were able to add approximately 24 cases of food to the Red Hook Responds Local Food Pantry. o We also discussed some adjustments to the guest speaker list which Jennifer will discuss with Susan Ezrati. o Jennifer is also going to create a more formal Business meeting agenda for the club business meetings as requested by several members. Hon. Jonah Triebwasser shared RadioRotary upcoming guest: Cara Mia from Hope On A Mission. Hein Tune in to Healthy Ulster Radio I am pleased to let you know that on June 26, 2016, Ulster County began a new weekly `Healthy Ulster Radio´ program designed to advance our goal of making Ulster County the healthiest county in New York State. `Healthy Ulster Radio´ will be co-hosted by Ulster County Commissioner of Health and Mental Health, Dr. Carol Smith and Vincent Martello, Director of Community Health Relations of the Ulster County Department of Health and Mental Health. The program will air on Pamal Broadcasting’s Kingston based stations, WBPM (92.9 FM) at 7:30 a.m. and WGHQ (920 AM), WLNA (1420 AM) and WBNR (1260 AM) at 8:30 a.m. The weekly program will explore community health and sustainability with guests representing a broad spectrum of community partners and sectors working to make Ulster County the healthiest county in New York State. In addition, Office for the Aging Director Kelly McMullen can be heard on radio station WGHQ (920 AM) the second Tuesday of every month. She is able to provide Senior Citizens with important information, special events, and current programs. There are many great things happening in Ulster County so I invite you to turn on your radio and tune in so you don’t miss a thing. Have a fun and safe summer!
