You called me into a relationship with You right before my mom passed away and as soon as I was going into college. Since that time, I really lived and enjoyed life. I have even realized what true freedom is. Challenges have come, but You turned those into teachable moments and opportunities for growth, which also helped me get to this point. For everything, I am grateful! To my wife who encourages me and who challenges me to be better as a husband, a great father to our children, a man after God’s own heart, and an educator, I dedicate this to you. We have grown together in this marriage, whether one or both of us were in school, without and then with our little guys, and with getting into good careers. Making this happen was not the easiest thing, but you certainly made it worth it. You are superwoman and you have made me see that we are a strong team. As I was able to work and be a “house husband” when you were in school, you certainly came through for me and did the same thing! I absolutely love and thank you for that. And to our little guys that made me close the computer and play with them often, this goes to them also! I needed just what they wanted: time together. To my mom and dad who have gone on to glory, and to my brothers and sisters, I dedicate this to you. Your successes helped me realize that, although I came from a house with holes in the walls and had to sometimes get by on government-assisted groceries, I did not have to stay within that life. Thanks for being examples and encouraging me to get my education. You all are the best family and I am grateful for it. iii Lastly I dedicate this to my mentors. You all have been there for me with encouragement and strategy on how to be successful. You never let me give up and you contributed to the passion that I have for education by showing me how you pursued and still pursue your passions. Thank you for keeping me on my toes. Thank you for checking on my wellbeing. Thank you for alloying me to be free to explore and giving me advice along the way. My hope is that I can be a mentor like you all have been to me, and even go beyond. iv ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS To the professors, classmates, colleagues, and friends who have been there to see me through to this point in my career, I thank you! From the antiquity of the beautiful structures, to the beautiful oaks, to the collaboration among professionals in the classrooms, to the awesome professors, to the rapid responses of emails from just about every office on campus, the Louisiana State University has been one of the best institutions I have ever encountered.
