{PDF EPUB} Astrology Through a Psychic's Eyes by Sylvia Browne Browne, Sylvia Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Astrology Through a Psychic's Eyes by Sylvia Browne Browne, Sylvia. American professional psychic, gifted all her life and founder of Nirvana Foundation for Psychic Research in 1974. In her interesting autobiography, Sylvia tells of her lifelong association with her spirit guide, Francine, a South American Indian entity who first took over the girl's body when she was eight. Born with a caul over her face and head, Sylvia came naturally into her gift from a family background of prescience. When she was three, she informed her folks that her sister would be born in three years (as she was) and at five, began to foresee deaths and events that were frightening to a child. Her grandmother, Ada Coil, reassured her that it was a natural gift, and taught her psychic etiquette, such as not babbling inappropriately that her dad was going out to see a girlfriend. At eight, Sylvia became clairvoyant and clairaudient, seeing Francine, and becoming prophetic about future events. She learned to tell people of their mission and soul-work, themes and patterns, but was never able to see her own future. Often flip, funny and down to earth, the sparkling redhead learned to be an entertaining lecturer and was a popular TV guest, a particular favorite of Montel Williams. On 7/13/1954, her beloved Grandma Ada died, followed a few days later by her uncle. Sylvia went to college, majoring in education and planning to teach. She was engaged for four years but at 19, crashed into love with a man who did not mention his wife and two kids. Sylvia began her teaching career in September 1956 and loved it. She was also "reading" for people who requested it, including the Catholic nuns at her school. In October 1958 she met Gary Defresne, a cop, on a blind date and they married 4/02/1959. It was ten days before the marriage was consummated, and sex was always an uncomfortable issue between them. Francine confirmed that Sylvia became pregnant on 12/09/1959, 9:30 PM, Kansas City, and her son, Paul Jon, was born on his dad's birthday, 8/19/1960. Though Sylvia wanted to stay home with her baby, Gary insisted that she continue teaching to bring in an income. They bought a first home in early 1961, but it was on a bad psychic location and had continual problems. Gary was dismissed from the Police Force and they decided to try life in California, moving to Sunnyvale, where he got a job as a fireman. The entire family moved west and they got a duplex to live as an extended family. Though holding a job, Sylvia gradually began speaking before groups and giving demonstrations. When she took post-grad classes, she met teacher Bob Williams, a dear love for four years until he died of AIDS. Her second son, Christopher Michael was born in February 1966. It was he who carried on the family gift and later worked with his mom in the psychic field. Both boys grew to be a handsome 6'6". By 1971, her marriage to Gary was over. Sylvia met another fireman, Dal Brown and they married on 1/07/1972. She and Dal started the Nirvana Foundation in San Jose, borrowing $2400 to begin the non-profit corporation. On 6/11/1974, she opened her own office from where she gave readings for a fee of $7.50. At the foundation, she and Francine gave lectures and classes in psychic development. She gradually raised her fee to $15, then $30 and by the '90s, up to $400. By 1990, they had a staff of 14 for classes, services, cassettes and booklets. In 1988, Sylvia divorced Dal after finding illegal dealings. One of Sylvia's clients in 1973 had been a student named Larry Beck. He returned into her life in 1986 to help with the Foundation and the Church she founded. They married on 9/11/1994. Both of Sylvia's parents died in 1995, four months apart. She expanded her work to help the police department with missing kids and homicides, and her fame spread in articles and TV guest shots. Sylvia died on 20 November 2013 at age 77. • I See Dead People: a Look at After-Death Communication
CHRISTIAN RESEARCH INSTITUTE P.O. Box 8500, Charlotte, NC 28271 Feature Article: DD810 I SEE DEAD PEOPLE: A LOOK AT AFTER-DEATH COMMUNICATION by Marcia Montenegro This article first appeared in the Christian Research Journal, volume 25, number 1 (2002). For further information or to subscribe to the Christian Research Journal go to: http://www.equip.org SYNOPSIS Recent years have witnessed a revival of interest in contact with the dead. Much of this interest is due to the popularity of mediums such as John Edward, Sylvia Browne, and James Van Praagh. Edward and Van Praagh both have popular television shows, and all three have written best-selling books and have appeared on numerous talk shows. Several movies, such as the hit, The Sixth Sense, have also made spirit contact the theme of their stories. Sylvia Browne and James Van Praagh do not practice spirit contact in a vacuum; they have complex spiritual beliefs spelled out in their books and expressed on talk shows. While Edward claims to be Roman Catholic, Browne and Van Praagh have openly rejected orthodox Christianity and embraced a nonjudgmental God more tailored to New Age beliefs. Edward, Browne, and Van Praagh all have backgrounds that include heavy psychic experiences as well as research into the occult and psychic worlds. Skeptics have denounced these mediums and attempted to expose them as frauds. This raises questions: Are all mediums frauds, and can we be sure that they are? Is it possible that some mediums may be receiving information from a demonic source? Is the classification of mediums as frauds a helpful response? Despite seemingly being debunked by skeptics, mediums still generate strong interest.

  • Jessica Volpe Spirituality Is Representative Of
PSYCHIC MEDIUMS AND COMMUNICATION WITH THE DEAD Jessica Volpe Spirituality is representative of all that is intangible, of everything that requires beliefs and faith. Science, on the other hand is representative of logic, fact, and certainty. Recently, science and spirituality have come together, specifically in the realm of afterlife communication. With the current mainstream popularity of psychics and their abilities, a scientific approach has been taken to validate the potential reality of spiritual phenomena. Essentially, the spiritual world and the scientific world, two entities that have usually remained separate, are now beginning to combine. In her book, The Battle for God, Karen Armstrong discusses the concepts of mythos and logos. Mythos is knowledge about the workings of life and what answers life’s questions (xiii). Meanwhile, logos is essentially all that is logical and factual (xiv). In today’s society, there is a pressing need for proof. The mythos aspect of religion is no longer strong enough on its own; what is needed is logos. Consequently, many have begun to turn to psychic ability as proof of an afterlife. James McClenon discusses this issue further in his book, Deviant Science: the Case of Parapsychology, while examining the research regarding spiritual phenomena and its struggle for acceptance. However, the motivation behind the acceptance of psychic evidence in both the scientific as well as the general community must be taken into account. One must consider whether belief and research in spiritual mediums are driven by actual proof or if there is a substantial following simply because people want to believe in communication with the afterlife so badly that they will create evidence to support their claims.

  • Virtual Spirituality: the Negotiation and (Re)-Presentation of Psychic-Spiritual Identity on the Internet
Virtual Spirituality: The Negotiation and (Re)-Presentation of Psychic-Spiritual Identity on the Internet Tamlyn Ryan Submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy September 2012 Department of Sociology University of York Abstract This research is an examination of how people engaged in psychic and spiritual interests use the internet to participate as a group through social media. Exploring how individuals take advantage of the opportunities afforded by the internet to pursue their interest in psychic spirituality reveals different ways of participating and interacting online. The ways in which individuals present their psychic-spiritual selves online, how they negotiate their online identities and make sense of their culture, is also examined. Using an eclectic methodological approach, this research used a combination of ethnographic methods and autoethnography to explore online psychic-spiritual culture. Documentary analysis of website text and images, together with participant observation, both covert and overt, were used to examine websites. Facebook interaction and psychic readings in online discussion board forums based on psychic-spiritual interests were analysed using discourse analysis. Autoethnographic self-reflections were also collected and analysed in order to capture an intrapsychic perspective of psychic reading culture. It was found that psychic practitioners use their websites to communicate the message that they are credible psychic readers whilst Facebook was found to be a site in which, through a delicate interplay of activity and performance, identity is constructed through interaction between the psychic reader and their Facebook friends. Psychic-spiritual discussion board forums meanwhile are sites of situated learning in which learner psychic readers learn to become appropriate members of the psychic- spiritual milieu.
