Wolfe’s film adaptation of August Wilson’s play “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Best Supporting Actor was awarded to Leslie Odom, Jr. for his powerful performance as soul musician Sam Cooke in Regina King’s 1964-set “One Night in Miami…” and Best Supporting Actress went to Yuh-Jung Youn, a standout in Lee Isaac Chung’s “Minari.” Best Youth Performance also went to “Minari,” for Alan Kim’s memorable work as the young son of South Korean immigrants relocating from California to rural Arkansas in the 1980s. The announcement was made today by John Shaffner, ADG Council Chairman, and ADG Award Producers Dave Blass and James Pearse Connelly. “Jim Bissell’s work as a Production Designer is legendary and we are proud to rank him among the best in the history of our profession. He is an extraordinary artist and accomplished leader in the industry and it is our pleasure to name him as this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient,” said Shaffner. A veteran leader of the ADG, Bissell was a past Vice President and a Board member for more than 15 years. He also chaired the Guild’s Awards Committee for the first three years of its existence. Bissell’s distinguished work can be seen on such notable films as E.T. the Extra- Terrestrial (1982), which took home four Oscars® with an additional five Oscar® nominations in 1983; The Rocketeer (1991), Jumanji (1995), 300 (2006), Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011) and most recently The Monuments Men (2014), directed by and starring George Clooney. Monuments Men is Jim’s fourth collaboration with Clooney, which began with Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002), followed with Oscar®-nominated Good Night, and Good Luck (2005) and continuing with Leatherheads (2007).

Infiltrato da un agente nell'influente Black Panther Party, O'Neal scala le gerarchie del partito e si avvicina al suo leader Fred Hampton, prima arrestato e poi liberato in attesa dell'appello. Militante di giorno e traditore stipendiato la notte, Bill vive in maniera tormentata la sua doppia natura, da un lato aderendo alla visione politica di Hampton ma dall'altra contribuendo in maniera decisiva alla sua violenta uccisione, avvenuta per mano dell'FBI nel dicembre 1969. Il ritratto di una figura chiave della politica afroamericana degli anni Sessanta evita per fortuna il santino, scegliendo come protagonista lo sguardo incerto del Giuda che lo ha condannato a morte. Il titolo è più che esplicito: al cinema Giuda viene sempre prima di Gesù. In questo caso, un Giuda che lavora per l'FBI e un messia che a fine anni '60, dopo le uccisioni di Malcolm X e Martin Luther King, portava avanti la battaglia del popolo afroamericano: Fred Hampton, leader delle Pantere nere di Chicago (interpretato da Daniel Kaluuya, premiato con un Golden Globe al migliore attore non protagonista in un film drammatico), politico e ideologo marxista che professava una visione rivoluzionaria in grado di superare tradizioni e retaggi di una cultura preziosa ma subalterna.
