8 June 2021 BRITISH AMERICAN TOBACCO p.l.c. 2021 First Half Pre-Close Trading Update CONTINUED NEW CATEGORY ACCELERATION Trading update - ahead of closed period commencing 28 June 2021 Jack Bowles, Chief Executive: ‘We are accelerating our transformation to build A Better Tomorrow. We are creating brands of the future and sustainable value for all our stakeholders. We added +1.4m non-combustible product consumers1 in Q1, to reach a total of 14.9m. We are investing and building strong, fast growing international brands in each segment, rapidly accelerating our reach and consumer acquisition, thanks to our digitalisation and our multi-category consumer-centric approach, supported by the right resources and products, and our agile organisation. Our portfolio of non-combustible products is tailored to meet the needs of adult consumers. We are growing New Categories at pace, encouraging more smokers to switch to scientifically substantiated reduced risk alternatives2. We continue to expect 2021 to be a pivotal year for the business, with accelerating New Category revenue growth, a clear pathway to New Category profitability by 2025, and leverage reducing to c.3x by year end. ESG is deeply embedded in our organisation, and we have set ourselves stretching targets: £5bn New Category revenue by 2025; 50 million consumers of non-combustible products and carbon neutrality across our own operations by 20303, which I am confident in delivering. In summary, we are accelerating our transformation with increased investment capitalising on our growing momentum in the New Categories, and a record quarter for consumer acquisition. This, together with our strong business performance, is reflected in our upgraded Group revenue growth guidance of above 5% for 2021. -

I understand that my thesis may be made electronically available to the public. ii ABSTRACT Cigarette packaging is the most prominent form of tobacco promotion in Canada. Tobacco companies are increasingly selling cigarettes in innovative packaging, including the use of slim and super-slim “lipstick” sizes that are primarily marketed towards females. Australia is currently the only country that regulates the shape and size of cigarette packaging. The current study examined the relative importance of five cigarette packaging attributes—pack shape (e.g., “slims”) , brand, plain packaging, warning label size, and price—on perceptions of product taste, harm, and interest in trying, among young women in Canada. A discrete choice experiment was conducted online with smoking (n=211) and non- smoking (n=292) females, aged 16 to 24, recruited from a commercial sample. Respondents were shown 8 choice sets, each containing four packs displaying different combinations of the attributes: pack structure (slim, lipstick, booklet, standard); brand ( ‘Vogue’, ‘du Maurier’); branding (branded, plain); warning label size (50%, 75%); and price ($8.45, $10.45). For each choice set, respondents chose the brand that they: 1) would rather try, 2) would taste better, 3) would be less harmful, or “none”. -

The proposed measure is similar to levies that have been implemented in Botswana in recent years. A concern is the possibility that Lesotho’s new levy may stimulate a significant increase in bootlegging between Lesotho and South Africa. This chapter investigates the presence and possibility of bootlegging between South Africa and Botswana, and South Africa and Lesotho, by describing the differences in cigarette and alcohol prices between Gaborone, Botswana, and the nearby South African towns of Mafikeng and Zeerust, as well as between Maseru, Lesotho, and nearby Ladybrand, South Africa. 1 Economics of Tobacco Control Project, University of Cape Town, South Africa. 551 551 Confronting Illicit Tobacco Trade: A Global Review of Country Experiences An analysis of comparative cigarette price data indicated the following: Gaborone and Mafikeng/Zeerust. Overall, average cigarette prices are significantly higher in Gaborone than in nearby South African towns. The cheapest pack price found in Gaborone was nearly five times the cheapest price identified in South Africa. Maseru and Ladybrand. Cigarette prices differ between Maseru and Ladybrand, but much less than between Gaborone and Mafikeng/Zeerust. -

Nunneley 26 March 2020, 17:04 6 min read Vaping and e-cigarettes: Adding fuel to the coronavirus fire?Because vaping can cause dangerous lung and respiratory problems, experts say it makes sense that the habit could aggravate the symptoms of COVID-19. New data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week warns that young people may be more impacted by COVID-19 than was initially thought, with patients under the age of 45 comprising more than a third of all cases, and one in five of those patients requiring hospitalization. Although scientists still don’t have good data to explain exactly why some young people are getting very sick from the novel coronavirus, some experts are now saying that the popularity of e-cigarettes and vaping could be making a bad situation even worse. Approximately one in four teens in the United States vapes or smokes e-cigarettes, with the FDA declaring the teenage use of these products a nationwide epidemic and the CDC warning about a life-threatening vaping illness called EVALI, or “E-cigarette or Vaping- Associated Lung Injury.” Public health experts believe that conventional cigarette smokers are likely to have more serious illness if they become infected with COVID-19, according to the World Health Organization. Because vaping can also cause dangerous lung and respiratory problems, 1/4 experts say it makes sense that the habit could aggravate the symptoms of COVID-19, although they will need longer-term studies to know for sure.
