~A scout is courteous. Leave No Trace-if it is carried in, it must be carried out. Please be extra careful on the beach, as any trash or chemicals can be harmful to the environment and wildlife. Please use ECO-friendly soaps for dishes. ~There is limited water on site. ALL drinking, cleaning, and cooking water will need to be brought in by each unit. There will be a designated area at each beach access point for the disposal of all gray water.

Section 3. Health and Safety Emergency Information

In the event of any emergency that endangers the camp on the beach, we will blow 3 blasts on an air horn. Upon hearing this warning sound, drop everything immediately and gather your unit at the Town Parking Lot at Milliken Street. Take a head count and ensure nobody is missing. If an emergency occurs while at Veteran’s Memorial Park, please gather your units at the Flagpole Area. Just as with any emergency, please maintain a walking speed and keep a cool head. If you hear the emergency signal of three blasts, you need to assume it is a real emergency.

First Aid Minor first aid needs are the responsibility of the unit. Be prepared. Those persons with diabetes or allergies to bee stings must provide their own emergency kits. Anyone with allergies should be prepared with the proper medication. All accidents must be reported to adult camporee staff regardless of severity.

Medical Forms & Medications Every youth and adult attending Camporee must be covered by Parts A & B of the BSA medical form. Unit leaders must bring copies of the unit medical forms to Camporee. Medications MUST be kept in a secure locked box or in a unit leader’s car. Also, any medications requiring refrigeration (i.e. Insulin) are the responsibility of the individual units.

Section 7. Service Project “Harbor Seal” Polar Dip Immediately after our “Chariots of Fire” style short sunrise run, we will start our “Harbor Seal” Polar Dip at 6:15 AM. We will take a quick dip in the ocean and raise money and awareness for Marine Mammals of Maine. Marine Mammals of Maine is a non-profit organization that rescues and rehabilitates harbor seals, sea turtles, and other marine wildlife.

Since we have been given the privilege of camping out on one of the most popular beaches in New England, we want to give back in some small way by making a donation. May is “pup” season for seals and volunteers are very busy. It can cost anywhere from $350 up to thousands of dollars to rescue and care for each one of these animals. Every dollar helps.

Scouts are encouraged to collect pledges and donations to support MMoMe. Scouts are NOT required to participate in the polar dip. They can still collect donations even if they don't go in the water. There is no minimum for pledges or donations. Units should collect all pledges and donations from their troop and write one check to Troop 310 Saco. Please turn this in at the registration tent at Check in.

Section 9. Tips for Camping on the Beach

❖ 2 liter bottles filled with water make good weights for holding tents down ❖ Have a hand and foot washing station. All you need is a camp chair, a wash tub with water, and a dry towel. You could also include a water squirt bottle and baby powder. ❖ Be prepared for the weather. It could be very nice and warm during the day and get very windy and cold at night. ❖ Bring sunglasses, sunscreen and bug spray. It is a good idea to have a plastic bag/dry bag to put in any wet clothing or towels. ❖ When setting up your tent, point the opening away from the wind. Keep windows closed. This will help to keep sand out of your tent. ❖ No shoes in the tents! (Or wet sandy feet) When getting into your tent, sit down with your feet outside the tent and remove your shoes. When leaving your tent, do the reverse. Store shoes in a covered bin right outside the tent. Keep baby powder near your tent’s entrance to help brush off sand. ❖ Keep a small dustpan and brush in your tent. ❖ Beach/sand mats outside the tent can help ❖ Traditional bug spray tends not to work on sand fleas. Bring a small bottle of baby oil instead. This will help ward them off and place an unwelcoming barrier between the fleas and your feet. You can buy insect repellant that says it works against sand fleas, but you’re better off just going straight for oil instead. ❖ Hydrocortizone cream or other anti-itch cream can help if you get bit. Don’t scratch! ❖ 5 Gal buckets for each scout to sit on while on beach camp or fire

We would like to thank OOB365 and Sharri MacDonald for all of the help and support in planning and executing this Camporee! THANK YOU!!
