It was realised that for the proper implementation of the I.R.D. Programme detailed planning for the target group is necessary and this can be attempted meaningfully under the umbrella of a block plan. To facilitate decentralised planning the Department of Economics and Statistics is now engaged in building up block level data in each district. The present report .relating to Cannanore district was prepared by the officers and staff of the Cannanore District Office (Economics and Statistics) and the publication and co-ordination division of this department. Shri C. G. Netto, Research Assistant of the Administrative Intelligence Unit in the Directorate took much pains in compiling and scrutinising the data. It is hoped that this report will be of considerable use to plawers and researchers at the district and lower level units for the formulation of schemes and for their proper evaluation. Abstract Objective: The aim of this study is to check the spatial distribution of cancer reported in a cancer centre through geographical information systems (GIS) and compare cancer reporting across a large geographical area using hospital based data. Results & Discussion: Data from the research centre for the two years 2010 and 2011 are used for this study. Various visualization techniques, exploratory data analysis and spatial analysis were employed to map and analyze these data. Data analyses revealed the association between different factors and a significant variation across the areas. Conclusions: This study shows the possibility of using geographic information systems successfully to investigate cancer rates.The output of this study can be used to implement different health planning policies and control the disease cancer.
