It is a full-size operating electric railway and museum, featuring historic electric railcars operating on two kilometers of scenic track. The HCRR is proud to be Ontario’s first and largest electric railway system. It was formed in 1954 by a group of men who wanted to save Toronto Transit Commission streetcar 1326 from being sent to the scrapyard. Next, we will go to the Aberfoyle Mill for an included lunch. The Mill originally functioned as a grist mill, powered by the pond situated at the back of the building. In 1867 the Mill won a gold medal, for its oatmeal at the World’s Fair in Paris. The Mill functioned until the late 1920s. In 1960 the Mill was purchased by the Owens family and after about 6 years of restoration, it was converted into one of the most unique restaurants in Canada. The site preserves the site of the first commercial oil well in North America dug by James Miller Williams in 1858.
