Another innovation for 2015 is the NEW Donway Vacuum Mattress and Vacuum Splint Set. The mattress has a V-shaped body design that optimises its capabilities, whilst at the same time uses an enhanced internal chamber technology for superior stability. The mattress is easy to store and transport meaning it is a fantastic addition to any ambulance, rescue or evacuation kit. Deal with it.] 2 Introduction A man who eats well and who repairs his bodily losses with wisdom and discernment can withstand more exertion than any other living creature. One must be touched by a unique kind of madness to willingly take a vacation for the better part of a week in an environment that can kill an unwary person in less than three days. As indicated by the title, this is a book that may be useful for cooking in the area of Nevada called the Black Rock Desert, a singular 200 square mile area some 4,000 feet above sea level, some 100 miles northeast of Reno. That being said, this is not a book to help one survive in the desert, at least in the strictest sense. This work assumes that one already knows how to survive on the playa; that having adequate shelter and food and clothing for the time spent, that duct tape, rope, and rebar are one’s best inanimate friends, that one is fully able to take care of oneself, are already ingrained in the potential playa cook.

I am interviewing Ambassador Leonard Shurtleff in Florida. OK. Ambassador, thank you for coming to join me in Florida, in Sebring, Florida. And I understand -- where do you live now? SHURTLEFF: Gainesville, Florida. Q: Gainesville, Florida. Fantastic. SHURTLEFF: Right in the middle of the state. Q: In the middle of the state, excellent. Thank you for, for deciding to interview, that’s fantastic. I’ll -- what we’d like to do is start really at the very beginning. Little bit about your family history, where you were born, what your parents did -- SHURTLEFF: OK. Q: -- and your early life, please. SHURTLEFF: OK. The Shurtleffs are from Massachusetts. The first Shurtleffs arrived about 1630, so we’ve been there a long time. Q: Wow. SHURTLEFF: And I grew up in Haverhill, which is just 25 miles north of Boston on the Merrimack River. Went to Haverhill High School, graduating in 1958. Q: You were born when, what year? SHURTLEFF: June 4th, 1940. Q: That’s right. SHURTLEFF: 1958, 18-years-old. 1 Q: Mm-hmm. SHURTLEFF: In high school, I lettered in track and basketball, was a member of the National Arts Society. Q: Wow. SHURTLEFF: My father was a self-employed businessman. He sold tires and automotive accessories. Did quite well at it.
