Jesus Is coming! The prophecies of the coming of Jesus started with: Jesus will be a Jew from the tribe of Judah! Jesus will be called the Son of ! And, as you can see, both Joseph and Mary come from the line of King David, which automatically makes their son Jesus related to King David! Jesus would be born in Bethlehem

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.” Micah 5:2 What’s significant about the word “Ephrathah” is that there are two towns named Bethlehem mentioned in the ; this famous one in Judah, the other one in Zebulun (Joshua 19:15).

Bethlehem-Judah is first mentioned as the place formerly known as Ephrath (Genesis 35:16), where Rachel gives birth to Benjamin and dies (Genesis 35:19).

This prophecy is very specific about the birthplace of JESUS! So the Jews should have known where their Messiah All people on earth! would be born! God – Through Micah! It’s like God Early 700 BC even gave them 1-800 - Micah 5:2 the zip code!

My Son Jesus will be born in in JUDAH, in the city of BETHLEHEM, the City of my servant David! REMEMBER THIS SO WHEN IT HAPPENS YOU WILL KNOW! SOME OF OLD TESTAMENT PROPHECIES ABOUT THE COMING AND BIRTH OF CHRIST!

1. Jesus will be born into ’s lineage! 2. Jesus will be an ancestor of Isaac! 3. Jesus will be an offspring of Jacob! 4. Jesus will be born from the tribe of Judah! 5. Jesus will be an offspring of King David! 6. Jesus will be born of a virgin and His name will be called Immanuel! (God with us) 7. Jesus will be born in Bethlehem Ephratha!

These are important to know as we begin our study into the early life of Jesus on the earth! Kids, every Sunday morning in ”Big Church,” Pastor Jeff has all the people in the service read a Psalm together with him before preaching. So let’s do that as well before we get into the lesson. If you have your Bible, you and your parents can read Psalm 89:1-7 and see how it applies to today’s lesson. If you don’t have a Bible, you can read the following: Psalm 89:1-7 1 I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations. 2 For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens. 3 I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant, 4 Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah. 5 And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O Lord: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints. 6 For who in the heaven can be compared unto the Lord? Who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the Lord? 7 God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him. Memory Verse:

Matthew 1:21 “And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call His name Jesus: for He shall save His people from their sins.” Memory Verse:

Matthew 1:21 “And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call His name Jesus . . .” Mary would give birth to the Savior of the world, Jesus!

Jesus’ Hebrew name is Yeshua, which is a shortened version of Yehoshua. Yeshua means ‘he will save’, and is translated into English as Joshua. Memory Verse:

Matthew 1:21 “. . . for He shall save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21 “And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call His name Jesus: for He shall save His people from their sins.” This Week’s Lesson: God’s Greatest Promise

The Announcement of the birth of His Son! Also known as “The ” Scriptures: :26-47; 2:1-3 Matthew 1:18-24 OK kids, if you have prayed and asked the Holy Spirit to give you understanding, then open your to Luke 1 and Matthew 1 and let’s begin!

Genesis 1:3 – “Let there be light!” Genesis 1:6 – “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters . . .” Genesis 1:9 – “Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear.” Genesis 1:11 – “Let the earth sprout vegetation.” Genesis 1:14 – “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens . . .” Genesis 1:20 – “Let there be fish and birds . . .” Genesis 1:24 – “Let there be animals . . .” Genesis 1:26 – “Let us make man in our image . . .”

Not only did God speak everything into existence, but

And today we will see how those Old Testament prophecies about the coming Messiah were fulfilled. Mary was probably alone, thinking happy thoughts as she was soon to be married to Joseph, and eagerly looked forward to the time when they would be in their own home, and planning how she would make that home lovely for Joseph.

From verse 24, we see that “in the sixth month” Luke 1:26-27 meant in the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy (soon to be mother of ). We know from Scripture that the angel Gabriel is a messenger who is entrusted to deliver several important messages on God’s behalf. Gabriel appears to at least three people in the Bible, first to the prophet Daniel, referenced in Daniel 8:16; next to the priest Zechariah to foretell and announce the miraculous birth of John the Baptist (:19); and finally to the virgin Mary to tell her that she would conceive and bear a son, referenced here in Luke 1:26-28. Daniel 8:16 says that Gabriel “looked like a man,” and after he finished speaking with Daniel, Daniel was “exhausted and sick for days.” So we can assume that Gabriel probably looked like a man, but even so, he had to tell Daniel and Mary to “Not be afraid!” But for our lesson, we will use a simple man in a white robe! What did Gabriel call Mary? Luke 1:28-29 What was her reaction? Look what Gabriel said to her!

WOW! And she was just a teenager! What did Mary ask him? Luke 1:34 Mary was concerned because she was not yet married. What fantastic thing did Gabriel Luke 1:35 tell Mary about her son? In other words, the Holy Spirit will be the real father of the child, not Joseph, the man she will marry. This is why we call Jesus the God Man! What was so unusual about Luke 1:36 Elizabeth having a baby? Side Note:

The King James Version of the bible states that Elizabeth was Mary’s cousin. The word “Cousin” in Greek is “suggenis” which means “kinswoman” or “relative.” The word “suggenis” does not necessarily mean “cousin.” It simply implies that Mary and Elizabeth were relatives, with no indication as to degree of relationship. The law made provision for the intermarriage of the tribes (Num. 36:6), and members of the tribes of Levi and Judah often intermarried. If God can create an entire universe just by speaking it into existence, He can surely allow an old woman to have a baby! And the angel departed from her. Girls, can you imagine how she must have felt? She’s heard about the Messiah all her young life but probably never imagined that she would be the one to give birth to Him! What do YOU and Mary have in common?

Mary – Luke 1:35 - The Holy Spirit came inside her.

You – I Corinthians 6:19 - The Holy Spirit lives inside YOU! We don’t have to wait for angels to bring Gods’ Word to us today. We find out what God wants for us as we read His Word, the Bible, and talk to Him in prayer.

The important thing is, are YOU willing to do what He wants, as Mary was? Kids, check out this verse . . . How are you doing as far as being kind, compassionate and forgiving? Especially to those who are not kind, compassionate and forgiving to YOU!

What did Joseph want to do with Mary after he found out she was pregnant? Do you think he believed her story? Matthew 1:18,19 Poor Joseph was really struggling with all this. Her story about an angel and giving birth to the Son of God was more than he could handle, but God had put such a strong love for her in his heart that he wanted to protect her and her reputation any way he could! Joseph knew what the Law said. Aren’t you glad he was a righteous man?

“If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her, you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death.” Deuteronomy 22:23,24 What did God do to let Joseph know Matthew 1:20,21 that everything Mary said was true?

What an amazing thing for God to do for Joseph! Like Mary, he was chosen before the foundations of the world to be the earthly father of God’s only begotten Son! This was all taking place to fulfill the Old Testament prophecy! Who was that prophet? ISAIAH

“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14

“Wow! Just like we see end-time prophecies taking place today, the people in that day had a prophecy take place . . . And most did not recognize it then! Can you imagine how Mary must have Matthew 1:24 felt to know that Joseph believed her and he even heard from an angel as well! And even though Joseph knew he would not be the real father of Jesus, he knew that he too, like Mary, had been given the privilege of raising God’s Son! Back to Mary went to visit her pregnant relative, Luke 1:39-41 Elizabeth. What happened to Elizabeth when she heard Mary’s greeting? The first person to recognize Jesus was an unborn child! Even though Elizabeth would soon be giving Luke 1:42-45 birth to John the Baptist, she blessed Mary and her unborn baby, Jesus! “About three months” meant that Luke 1:56 Mary stayed with Elizabeth until just before John the Baptist’s birth! But wait! If Mary returned home to Nazareth, how would the prophecy be fulfilled that said the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem?

Gabriel did not tell Mary that her son would be born in Bethlehem, but God had a plan! LOOK WHAT GOD DID !

What does this census have to do with Mary :1-3 and Joseph and birth of Jesus?

Kids, Jesus came to earth to be born and raised by Joseph and Mary. But did you know that He came here to be the perfect sacrifice for your sins so you don’t ever have to pay the penalty for your sins? Jesus did this so you can have eternal life in heaven, but you have to accept Him as your Lord and Savior to make this happen!

Here’s how you can accept His free gift of salvation: First, acknowledge you are a sinner and REPENT and ASK JESUS to forgive your sins and be your SAVIOR! JESUS took ALL your sins upon Himself on the cross! And not just yours, but the sins of the whole world! I :2

And And when Eternal Life! JESUS does this, He gives you a new heart! But it’s YOUR CHOICE if you want to accept His free gift of salvation! If you’ve never asked Jesus to FORGIVE you of your sins, and have not asked Him to BE YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR. . . But you would like to, pray this prayer and mean it with all your heart: “LORD JESUS, I know that I am a sinner and I do not deserve eternal life. But, I believe YOU died and rose from the grave to make me a new creation and to prepare me to dwell in your presence forever. JESUS, I repent of my sin and turn to you. Please come into my life, forgive my sins and save me. I trust in YOU for my salvation and I accept your free gift of eternal life.” In the mighty name of JESUS, Amen!

These basic practices will help you grow closer to Christ, love Him more, and help you share His love with others:

1. Read God’s Word (the Bible) daily – this is how He speaks to you. As you learn more about Him and obey His Word, you will become more like Him. 2. Pray daily – “Teach us to pray,” the disciples asked Jesus, and He taught them the simple prayer in :1-4. Prayer is simply talking with God. 3. Share your faith – once you have experienced new life in Christ, you will want to share His love and forgiveness with others. 4. Attend a Bible-believing church – this will help you grow in your new life in Christ, as you learn from the teaching of God’s Word, and be encouraged together with other believers.
