A few weeks ago at the meeting about the new rite of marriage I inquired if it was possible to do a “mass wedding,” which is one ceremony where more than one couple is married. It is done in the Philippines and other countries, and the new rite and the diocese both allow for it to be done here. Couples need to go through the same preparation as a single wedding, and pronounce their vows individually. I know of at least two couples who have expressed interest in being part of such a celebration, and have heard there are four more couples interested. If you are interested, please visit with Fr. He is the patron saint of Filipino youth, altar servers, Guam & Cebu.
Saint Lorenzo Ruiz
He was born in Binondo, Manila in 1600 and served happily in his parish as an altar boy and calligrapher. He got married and had 3 children. After being accused of murder, he left Manila for Japan. Sadly, he was not aware that the Japanese began persecuting Christians. He was tortured in attempt to make him renounce his faith. His final words were “I am Catholic and whole heartedly do accept death for God. Had I a thousand lives all these to Him I shall offer. Do with me as you please.” He was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1987. He is the first Filipino saint and is the patron saint of the Filipino people.
