Annual Report of Sports Board, 2018-2019 Page 1 of 46 DIBRUGARH UNIVERSITY SPORTS BOARD: DIBRUGARH ANNUAL REPORT 2018-2019 Hon’ble President and Respected Members: I on behalf of Dibrugarh University Sports Board welcome all of you in today’s Annual General Meeting of the Sports Board, D.U. here I would like to present the Annual Report of the Dibrugarh University Sports Board for the year 2018-19. Prior to reporting the annual activities of the Sports Board for the year 2018-19, I took the opportunity to offer my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all the Colleges, specially to the following colleges who rendered their kind help and constant support to the Sports Board by taking the responsibility of organizing the various Inter College Tournament for the year 2018-19. Campus Taekwondo(M/W),Volleyball(W),KickBoxing, Cricket(M), Cross Country(M/W), Wushu (M/W),Football(M),Table Tennis (M/W) 16 Demow College Handball(M/W) 17 Kakojan College Football (M) Zonal 18 Simen Chapori College Badminton(M/W) The Dibrugarh University Sports Board looks after the entire Games and Sports and Cultural activities of all affiliated Colleges to the Dibrugarh University especially conducting the various inter college tournaments and sending the team to participate in the National University Games and Sports. Apart from these the Board provides and maintains the sports facilities to the entire University communities within the University campus. Dibrugarh University Sports Board also provides support to Dibrugarh University Post Graduate Students Union in organizing Annual Versity Week and Page 2 of 46 Dibrugarh District Sports Association, the District Sports Office, various sports clubs and other agencies as and when required towards organizing various sports events. Achievement of the Students: International Ms. Rodali Barua has been selected to represent Indian University Taekwondo (M/W) teams in the World University Games 2019 at Napoli, Italy from 03.07.2019 -14.07.2019. Ms Syeda Samina Razin, achieved Third Position in Junior 52 Kg Category in the Asian Classic Power lifting Championship held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from 04.12.2018 to 08.12.2018 National Dibrugarh University Students bagged Medals in East Zone and All India Inter University Events 2018-19. Action plan of the Board for the year 2018-19 was approved in the meeting. Intramural Recreational Sports Competition among Teacher, Officer, employees and Research Scholars in weekends day: Intramural Recreational Sports Competition among Teacher, Officer, Employees and Research Scholars was organized by Dibrugarh University Sports Board in collaboration with Research Scholar Association w.e.f. 11.08.2018 to 15.08.2018. Total 13 teams were participated. The Account and Establishent branch team became the champion of the competition defeating Registrar Eleven team. INTRODUCTION:- Urbanisation is the process by which an increasing proportion of the country’s population starts residing in urban areas. “Understanding of Urbanisation” (Jha, 2006), the term is related to the core concern of Urban Geography. It stands for the study of Urban Concentration and Urban phenomena. By Urban Concentration what is meant in the different forms of urban setting; and by urban phenomena we mean all those processes that contribute to the development of urban centers and their resultant factors. Thus the scope of the term is certainly comprehensive. (Mallick, 1981) According to Census an urban area was determined based on two important criteria, namely: (i) statutory administration; (ii) certain economic and demographic indicators. The first criterion includes civic status of towns, and the second entails characteristics like population size, density of population, and percentage of the workforce in the non-agricultural sector. (Khawas V. 2002) India shares most characteristic features of urbanisation in the developing countries. Number of urban agglomeration /town has grown from 1827 in 1901 to 5161 in 2001. Out of the total 5161 towns in 2001, 3800 are statutory towns and 1361 are census towns. The number of statutory towns and census towns in 1991 was 2987 and 1702 respectively. The number of total population has increased from 23.84 crores in 1901 to 102.7 crores in 2001 whereas number of population residing in urban areas has increased from 2.58 crores in 1901 to 28.53 crore in 2001.
