Website: www.thecho.in Political Phenomena in Barak-Surma Valley during Medieval Period Dr. Sahabuddin Ahmed Associate Professor, Dept. of History, Karimganj College, Karimganj, Assam Email: [email protected] Abstract After the fall of Srihattarajya in 12 th century CE, marked the beginning of the medieval history of Barak-Surma Valley. The political phenomena changed the entire infrastructure of the region. But the socio-cultural changes which occurred are not the result of the political phenomena, some extra forces might be alive that brought the region to undergo changes. By the advent of the Sufi saint Hazrat Shah Jalal, a qualitative change was brought in the region. This historical event caused the extension of the grip of Bengal Sultanate over the region. Owing to political phenomena, the upper valley and lower valley may differ during the period but the socio- economic and cultural history bear testimony to the fact that both the regions were inhabited by the same people with a common heritage. And thus when the British annexed the valley in two phases, the region found no difficulty in adjusting with the new situation. Keywords: Homogeneity, aryanisation, autonomy. Asfaqur Rahman Pabna University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh Abstract- Proper and planned industrialization for any country can help to earn its expected GDP growth rate and minimize the unemployment rate. Industrial sector basically consists of manufacturing, together with utilities (gas, electricity, and water) and construction. But all these components to establish any industry are not available concurrently that only guarantee Sylhet. Here this study is conducted to identify the opportunities to generate the potential industrial sectors into Sylhet that ensures the proper utilization of idle money, cheap labor, abundant natural gas, and other infrastructural facilities. This industrialization process in Sylhet will not only release from the hasty expansion of industries into Dhaka, Chittagong but also focuses it to be an imminent economic hub of the country. As a pertinent step, this study analyzed the trend of gas utilization in different sectors and suggests the highest potential and capacity for utilizing gas after fulfilling the demand of gas all over the country. Though Sylhet has abundant natural resources and enormous potentials for developing gas-based industries, it has also some notable barriers which could easily be overcome if all things go in the same horizontal pattern. This paper concludes with suggestions that Sylhet could undertake the full advantage of different gas distribution and transmission companies and proposed Special Economic Zone (SEZ) as well for sustaining the momentum. -

Present Status of Adopted Agricultural Machinery in Sylhet Region
October, 2019 AgricEngInt: CIGR Journal Open access at http://www.cigrjournal.org Vol. 21, No. 3 61 Present status of adopted agricultural machinery in Sylhet region Muhammad Rashed Al Mamun*, Abu Hanif, Sagar Sarker (Department of Farm Power and Machinery, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Sylhet Agricultural University, Sylhet-3100, Bangladesh) Abstract: Mechanized cultivation plays a significant role in food production of Bangladesh. Nowaday, the mechanization is increasing in such a manner which is very much able to acquire the food production requirement easily but the increasing population and decreasing rate of cultivable land daunting the food sufficiency in the future, which leads us to accomplish the study about finding out the current status of mechanization. A study was conducted in the Sylhet region as an undergraduate project work in the Department of Farm Power and Machinery, Sylhet Agricultural University, Sylhet. The objective was to determine the present status of the adopted agricultural machinery and make a comparison of the machinery used in different upazilas of Sylhet. The upazila agricultural office and the local farmers provided the data for the year of 2016-2017. On the basis of supplied data, it was found that the Osmaninagar upazila of Sylhet district has the most number of machinery as well as 3639 in number and the lowest, 997 pieces of machinery owned by Jaintapur upazila. On the cumulative measurement, Low lift pump (LLP) is used in the highest number, which is 9225, but seeder, bed planter and hand reaper are adopted in less than 5 in Sylhet district. Significant use of sprayer occurs in Sylhet upazila, which is 2306 in quantity. -

Since the new development concepts will be introduced to JICA-2, the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) required JICA to execute the special assistance for project implementation (SAPI) for the smooth implementation of new development concepts under JICA-2. The objective of SAPI is to support the project management unit (PMU) established in the LGED for the preparation of operational guidelines of JICA-2. The expected outputs of this SAPI are as follows: Output 1: The operational guidelines of JICA-2 are prepared; Output 2: The first and second batches of subprojects under JICA-2 are selected; Output 3: Training manuals on organizing/strengthening water management cooperative association (WMCA) in JICA-2 are prepared; Output 4: The capacity of project management is improved and project implementation system is in place by conducting orientation and workshop; and Output 5: The local consultants engaged in JICA-2 are selected.
