It is with sadness that I must announce the closure of the Academy at St. Polycarp. This decision was not made hastily. Our Pastoral Council, Finance Council and Professional Staff all examined the ongoing viability of the Preschool over the course of months. They all discerned the same recommendation to the Pastor to close the Academy. This was based on factors that even pre- dated the challenges of the pandemic. For years, as the Smyrna School District increased its preschool programs, enrollment diminished. Often, the parish had to adjust Her operations to supplement the program. • Lesser Feasts and Fasts 2018
Lesser Feasts and Fasts 2018 Conforming to General Convention 2018 1 Preface Christians have since ancient times honored men and women whose lives represent heroic commitment to Christ and who have borne witness to their faith even at the cost of their lives. Such witnesses, by the grace of God, live in every age. The criteria used in the selection of those to be commemorated in the Episcopal Church are set out below and represent a growing consensus among provinces of the Anglican Communion also engaged in enriching their calendars. What we celebrate in the lives of the saints is the presence of Christ expressing itself in and through particular lives lived in the midst of specific historical circumstances. In the saints we are not dealing primarily with absolutes of perfection but human lives, in all their diversity, open to the motions of the Holy Spirit. Many a holy life, when carefully examined, will reveal flaws or the bias of a particular moment in history or ecclesial perspective. It should encourage us to realize that the saints, like us, are first and foremost redeemed sinners in whom the risen Christ’s words to St. Paul come to fulfillment, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” The “lesser feasts” provide opportunities for optional observance. They are not intended to replace the fundamental celebration of Sunday and major Holy Days. As the Standing Liturgical Commission and the General Convention add or delete names from the calendar, successive editions of this volume will be published, each edition bearing in the title the date of the General Convention to which it is a response.

Huge tents meant to shelter the concertgoers sagged under the heavy blanket of white, and everywhere the ground was a slushy mess. When events were moved indoors, Br. But the cars kept coming and Holy Peace Friary, the retreat’s community house, kept filling with people. SAINT BONAVENTURE CHURCH TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME | JUNE 21, 2020 As Christian stewards, our mission is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all people through word, sacrament, service and community life. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father knowing ... fear not, you are more valuable than many sparrows. – Matthew 29:31 Page two 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time PPastor’sastor’s CCornerorner Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Today I want to offer a prayer for all the Dads on this Father’s Day: God our Father, in your wisdom and love you made all things. Bless these men, that they may be strengthened as Christian fathers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them always with a spirit of profound respect. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Today is the Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The response to today’s Psalm is, “Lord, in your great love, answer me.” I find this very appropriate. I have been doing a lot of praying during the “lock down time” of the last three months. We were ready to celebrate the opening of our church in March, only to be told to stay home. We have all been through so much. I was so happy when the Bishop offered to bless our newly retrofitted and renovated church on June 14. Originally this was going to be just a livestream Mass. Then with the help of the Bishops of California, including Bishop Vann, as well as Bishop Jaime Soto, a native son of Orange County and Bishop of Sacramento, we were allowed by the Governor to open our churches on June 14.

THEIR ARTICLES ARE FULL OF VERACITY AND HOPE! Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Parables, Anyone? When Jesus answers the apostles' question about why he speaks in parables, it may seem as if He is using them to confuse people. We know He is trying to spread the Good News of God's kingdom. So He talks to the crowds in parables, easily understood stories that usually have a moral or that end with a question for the hearers. He uses these stories to teach the crowd. Jesus threw out parables like a farmer sowing seeds. Some of them fell on the ears of those who would be disciples. But most fell on the ears of people not ready to understand. So how do we receive His Word? Do we hear it without understan - ding, letting it go in one ear and out the other? Do we hear it joyfully, but then forget it when troubles or difficulties come along? Do we listen to the word but ignore it in the face of some later temptation? If we want the word to grow strong in us, we can take steps to help ourselves understand it. We can come to Church early and spend a few minutes with the readings before Mass. After Mass we can talk about the readings or the homily with our family over breakfast.
