Welcome to Masuria! The Great Masurian Lake District is one of the fi nest regions in Poland in terms of its natural beauty and the tourist potential. It’s there where nature reveals its full beauty to us, and the clean water and air invite us to spend our free time in the wilderness. It is also the largest in-land lake district in Poland, with many canals and rivers that forms an extraordinary N-S sailing route from Węgorzewo to Pisz and Ruciane-Nida. The Giżycko County (Powiat Giżycki) is the center of this land, with 110 lakes, including the famous Niegocin and Kisajno lakes. In the summer, it is an oasis for those who enjoy water sports. The „white fl eet“ cruises give the participants the unique opportunity to get familiar with the beauty of the „Swan Route“, or the Island of Cormorants. This traditional route is interesting also for the fans of canoeing who travel on the historical route of the Teutonic Knights from Ryn to Giżycko. One should go to Giżycko not only in the summer season. The fall is also a very good time for fi shing, and for mushroom picking. It’s not diffi cult to fi nd bolete, leccinum, suillus („slippery jack“) or a rovellon mushroom. Canoe enthusiasts will be more than satisfied not only by lakes and canals, but also with attractions offered by a less known Sapina river valley. Camping sites located in the picturesque forests and amongst The Masuria Region is not only the land of a thousand lakes. Some other of its characteristic lakes are ideal for those who treasure tranquility, features are the mixed forests, swamps and moors. As all these habitat types preserved their original contact with nature and long walks in the woods.
