SPOTLIGHT - PATHWAYS TO LAW PLACEMENT PROGRAMME

April saw us hosting four 16-18 year old students for a week- of the legal landscape and the tips and guidance they need long structured work placement as part of the Pathways to Law to navigate attaining a career in the legal world. It also programme which the London office has now been supporting includes raising their aspiration toward applying to the best for two years. All the London trainees also provided daily sessions on their practice areas and set the group challenging tasks to complete. On their final day they gave impressive presentations on contentious topics of their choosing to a panel of associates; Charlotte Bunn, Ajita Shah, Mitain Patel and Sarah Warnes. All assembled agreed, they couldn’t have imagined coping with doing something like this when they were the students’ ages! From these sessions the students got a taste of legal work and built their confidence toward achieving their chosen legal career. The four students in question, Courtnee Dixon, Linda Ali, Imran Zaidi and Iqra Ali are all attending London Comprehensive Schools and come from backgrounds where they will be the first in their family to attend University. City Law for Ethnic Minorities Event In June the London office was involved with ‘City Law for Ethnic Minorities”. This is the fourth year running we have supported this event which is run over 2 days and sees around 200 students from Universities all over the UK attending. The programme includes a number of skills and information gathering sessions aimed at giving the attendees a greater insight into the legal profession and some of the tools and techniques needed to successfully achieve this aspiration. Sarah Warnes hosted a session on the first day where she got the students to think about the application and interview process and how they can make themselves stand out from the crowd.
