The Immersive Theme Park
THE IMMERSIVE THEME PARK Analyzing the Immersive World of the Magic Kingdom Theme Park JOOST TER BEEK (S4155491) MASTERTHESIS CREATIVE INDUSTRIES Radboud University Nijmegen Supervisor: C.C.J. van Eecke 22 July 2018 Summary The aim of this graduation thesis The Immersive Theme Park: Analyzing the Immersive World of the Magic Kingdom Theme Park is to try and understand how the Magic Kingdom theme park works in an immersive sense, using theories and concepts by Lukas (2013) on the immersive world and Ndalianis (2004) on neo-baroque aesthetics as its theoretical framework. While theme parks are a growing sector in the creative industries landscape (as attendance numbers seem to be growing and growing (TEA, 2016)), research on these parks seems to stay underdeveloped in contrast to the somewhat more accepted forms of art, and almost no attention was given to them during the writer’s Master’s courses, making it seem an interesting choice to delve deeper into this subject. Trying to reveal some of the core reasons of why the Disney theme parks are the most visited theme parks in the world, and especially, what makes them so immersive, a profound analysis of the structure, strategies, and design of the Magic Kingdom theme park using concepts associated with the neo-baroque, the immersive world and the theme park is presented through this thesis, written from the perspective of a creative master student who has visited these theme parks frequently over the past few years, using further literature, research, and critical thinking on the subject by others to underly his arguments. -

Very good. $20,000 The Largest Physician’s Archive That We Have Ever Handled, containing nearly 3000 pieces of cor- respondence, on about 5770 pages, to New York physician Cornelius Rea Agnew, one of the most prominent American eye and ear specialists in the nineteenth century. As such, this is an invaluable source for medical and social history. Included are letters from some of New York City’s most eminent citizens, as well as a large number of letters from doctors and patients discussing medical issues. Also included are letters on personal and social issues, as well as hundreds of pieces of ephemera documenting Agnew’s professional and philanthropic activities in the last fifteen years of his life. Agnew, a native of New York City, obtained his medical degree from Columbia University’s College of Physi- cians and Surgeons in 1852 and received further training in Europe under such physicians as William Wilde (father of Oscar Wilde), William Bowman, Alfred Velpeau and Philippe Ricord. -
{PDF EPUB} the Color of Truth Mcgeorge Bundy and William
Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} The Color of Truth McGeorge Bundy and William Bundy Brothers in Arms by Kai Bird The Color of Truth: McGeorge Bundy and William Bundy: Brothers in Arms by Kai Bird. The Color of Truth: McGeorge Bundy and William Bundy-Brothers in Arms. Simon & Schuster, $27.50. When Telford Taylor, United States prosecutor at Nuremberg, returned from a trip to North Vietnam at the height of the US bombings there, he was asked on national television if, under international law, McGeorge Bundy could be judged guilty of war crimes. "Yes, of course," he replied. McGeorge "Mac" Bundy was a war criminal. So was his brother William. So I came to believe after a decade in the anti-Vietnam War movement. And nothing I read in Kai Bird's new biography of the Bundy brothers, The Color of Truth: McGeorge Bundy and William Bundy-Brothers in Arms , changes my opinion. Weaving a rich history of government documents-some recently declassified, some still classified-with interviews and a fresh look at available sources, Bird delivers the definitive assessment of two Cold Warriors. Neither Bundy topped the antiwar movement's enemies list. Those lofty perches were reserved for Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Robert McNamara, Henry Kissinger and William Westmoreland. Yet Mac Bundy, as Bird reminds us, "was a prime architect of the Vietnam War." And over their careers as intellectual bureaucrats, the moral compass of each Bundy was revealed to lack key points, especially when it came to using weapons of mass destruction in Asia. "Ultimately," Bird writes, "the Bundys were policy intellectuals shackled by Cold War shibboleths which they could not quite bear to break." David Dellinger, the pacifist leader of the antiwar movement, knew Mac Bundy in 1937, when they were classmates at Yale. -

Review of Theyear's Work
Review of theYear’s Work Melanie Aspey, Director of The Rothschild Archive Researchers Numerous visits to the London reading room have been made by members of an ambitious research project led by Pauline Prevost Marcilhacy. The project aims to record and catalogue the many thousand objects – pictures, jewels, statuary, objets d’art – presented to museums and gal- leries in France by members of the Rothschild family. Ulrich Leben, a member of the team, is a contributor to this issue of the Review. The Archive has received a number of publications and offprints from members of the research team, including Les Rothschild et la Commande architec- turale: collaboration ou maîtrise d’oeuvre, in Architectes et Commanditaires, Cas particuliers du XVIè au XXè edited by Tarek Berrada (Paris: Louvre, 2006); Charlotte de Rothschild, Artiste, Collectionneur et Mécène in Histoires d’Art – Mélanges en l’Honneur de Bruno Foucart, vol.ii, edited by B. Jobert, A. Goetz et S. Texier, (Paris: 2008) and Le grand Appartement de l’Hôtel St Florentin, fleuron de l’architecture néoclassique by Fabrice Ouziel in L’Estampille / L’Objet d’Art, September 2008. Sponsored by a Rothschild family trust in France, the project is a collaborative venture with the Louvre. Dr Junji Suzuki contacted the Archive in the course of his research into the development of Japanese gardens in France. Dr Suzuki had long suspected that the Japanese gardens at Boulogne-sur-Seine, the property of Baron Edmond de Rothschild, were the work of the renowned gardener Wasuke Hata. During his visit to the Archive he was able to confirm this and also identified a picture of Mr Hata in a collection of photographs presented to the Archive in 2005 by Baroness Benjamin de Rothschild. -
