1. Please provide a brief description of your organisation, including numbers of local volunteers and paid staff

Sussex Community Rail Partnership works with the local community and partner organisations to strengthen links between the community and the railway and promote sustainable transport. The organisation has 4 paid staff and 8 volunteers. The organisation works on 5 lines in total across Sussex. The Bognor and Barnham line, which is the focus of the 150th celebrations is on the Arun Valley Line.

2. Please provide a brief description of the project for which you are applying for funding (including why it is needed and who will benefit) 1st June 2014 is the 150th anniversary of the opening of Bognor Regis and Barnham line and railway stations. It is an ideal opportunity to promote the value of local railway stations to the community, so they can benefit from the advantages of train travel, and learn how they can access local attractions by train for example South Downs National Park, the towns and attractions along the Arun Valley line as well as towns along the West Coastway. Provide information to the local community about sustainable travel, including the railway, buses, cycling and walking and encouraging them to use the car less, which benefits the

environment by reducing pollution and increases fitness and general health of the local population.

Sharing the history of the local railway and how it transformed Barnham and Bognor Regis, to raise

awareness of the local heritage and the value of the railway.

Match funding will be provided by Southern in the form of posters in the stations. Bognor Town Council are providing tables and chairs for stall holders at Bognor station and bunting outside Bognor Regis station, and volunteers on the day. We will be applying to Acorp for £1000 costs for additional printing of booklets of poems for the Poems on the Railway project from the schools and other costs that will arise such as marquee hire.

2 This community event will be promoted along the whole length of the Arun Valley line from Three Bridges to , Bognor and Chichester, and from Brighton to Portsmouth and Southampton, as well as in all of the Tourist Information Points. Various places across the whole of will be included through the local press and media. This will raise the profile of both Bognor and Barnham and will attract visitors to both towns from the whole of Sussex and further afield

Bringing the community together will encompass the Mosaic workshop at Bognor station, which will encourage everyone to contribute to the mosaic on the day, which will be displayed at the station after the event. The involvement of the schools will also greatly contribute to bringing the community together. The community is leading this event through deciding for themselves how they are contributing. Exhibitions promoting local walks and cycle rides as well as the promotion of South Downs National Park encourages protection of the environment through sustainable travel and leisure opportunities. 8. Are any other local groups/organisations involved in your project? If so, please indicate who and the nature of their involvement Barnham Primary School – will be creating a pop up museum and promotional posters and poems. St Philip Howard School - will be doing a media project, interviewing local people involved in the event and from the local community, will be filmed by South Today Schools report. They will also be designing publicity, and contributing poetry to Poetry on the Railway. South primary school, Bognor will be involved, meeting to be held to decide their contribution

Bognor museum will be having a railway exhibition

Bognor Town Council will be supporting the event by providing tables and chairs for stall holders, publicity, decorating the outside of the station with bunting, and volunteer help on the day.

Derek Wittington – display about local walks and cycle rides around Barnham More community input to be confirmed.
