We have worked hard for this 10th anniversary to offer you an exceptional event. Over the years, the event has continued to grow and consolidate all the while preserving that authentic and convivial spirit we love so much. Despite the challenges of COVID, we hope to present a festive and unforgettable rendez-vous that will live up to the expectations you have been nurturing for months. Thank you to the many partners who have made this event possible for 10 years as well as to the hundreds of volunteers who have helped us year after year. Every involvement makes a significant difference in the success of this project which is much more than an event, but the annual summit of a community of enthusiasts, active all year long. » Marline Côté, General Manager 4 | Athlete guide UTHC WORD FROM THE RACE DIRECTOR « Dear athletes, It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2021 edition of the Ultra-trail Harricana du CanadaTM. What a joy to see so many of you coming to join us in Charlevoix to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the event! For the occasion, we have prepared a very diversified program. From the 1 km for children, to the 125 km master event, we are offering exceptionally this year the nine (9) courses developed by UTHC. In addition we offer you the new 42 km of Saint-Siméon. Technical and wild, this last one will amaze you with its grandiose panoramas on the St-Lawrence river. Another novelty, the 125 km will now start on Friday afternoon to offer you an improved experience (and a longer weekend with us!). On the health and safety side, we have gone to great lengths to provide you with the best possible support, day and night, throughout your challenge. UTHC is fast approaching and, after the smaller 2020 edition, we are looking forward to seeing many of you on our different routes. We'll be able to celebrate 10 years of the Ultra-trail Harricana du CanadaTM, but above all, the pleasure of being together. Happy training and see you soon! » Julien Harvey, Race director WORD FROM THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR AND HEAD-VOLUNTEERS « It is with great exhilaration that we have been planning the 2021 edition of the Ultra-Trail Harricana du CanadaTM for the last several months. We always look forward to welcoming you, this year especially, to celebrate the tenth anniversary! I remember with great emotion that very first edition. Even back then , we were already setting the bar high. And today, we are more than ever committed to delivering an event that will be remembered for a long time. And to celebrate its tenth anniversary, UTHC marks the occasion by offering you ten races! It is with great pleasure that I will be on site for the tenth consecutive year with all the ultra- volunteers who get involved year after year and allow us to make this event happen. I take this opportunity to warmly thank them and wish you all a good race! » Erika Potvin, Deputy director and Head-Volunteers ultratrailharricana.com

  • 1. How Should I Look After My Opinel Knife ? Avoid Leaving It in Damp Environments for Too Long
    1. How should I look after my Opinel knife ? Avoid leaving it in damp environments for too long. Grease the metal parts regularly. Dry the blade using a dry cloth after each use. 2. How do you sharpen an Opinel knife ? Use an Opinel fine‐grain natural stone on a dry, degreased blade. As if you wanted to cut the stone, move the blade from the base towards the tip, at an angle of 18/20 degrees. A wide angle will thicken the cutting edge: it will be more resistant but less sharp. A small angle will thin the cutting edge: it will be less resistant but sharper. A burr forms on the opposite side of the blade. Remove this by passing this side over the stone, without pressing. To finish off, pass both sides over the stone, twice. 3. Can I put my Opinel knife in the dishwasher ? Folding knives are not designed to be washed in the dishwasher. You can wash them by hand, being careful never to leave them soaking in the water and to dry and grease them properly afterwards. Fixed‐ blade kitchen knives with stainless steel blades can be put in the dishwasher. Make sure you use washing and rinsing products from the same brand. Place your knife in the cutlery basket with the blade downwards. Once the washing cycle has finished, dry your knife and put it away. 4. What is the difference between a carbon blade and a stainless steel blade ? The carbon blade has an unparalleled cutting quality and sharpens very easily.

GEAR KNIVES Opinel Number 8 Opinel is famous for making wooden-handled 5 4 camping knives. This model retains the classic shape but features two major changes: a plastic handle and a section of serrated blade that’s great for cutting rope. Of all the knives tested, this one felt most like Look sharp! a kitchen knife. I actually prepared supper with it at home one evening. The blade features a Virobloc double-lock system, but I still found it a bit wobbly WORDS NICK DALL Everyone loves a good pocket knife. so I wouldn’t use it for anything too hectic. PICTURES JAMES GARAGHTY R380 awesometools.co.za These days there’s something for every outdoor occasion. We put 12 of the best knives and multi-tools to the test. Victorinox New Soldier’s Knife Victorinox has supplied the Swiss Army with knives 5 5 5 for more than a century. This is their current military- RATING /5 issue product. It’s a good-looking unit and it’s lovely to hold. The main blade opens easily and is lockable, KNIVES TOMATO and most of its length is gently serrated, which BILTONG makes slicing biltong a breeze. A knife is a great thing. All of these knives are defined by their blades. It’s got a nice long saw, but this isn’t lockable. The CAN OPENER Some have other gizmos, but their calling in life is to cut stuff. Phillips screwdriver is fantastic, but why it’s in the middle of the knife is anyone’s guess. Just try getting to a corner screw! There aren’t as many tools as there are on the other Victorinox, but the blades are better and are made of thicker, stronger steel.
