2 A very warm welcome to you.

After much planning and preparation by the fete team throughout the year, together with help from all our fantastic helpers and sponsors, we are delighted to welcome you to Wisborough Green’s annual village fete. We are very proud of the traditional feel and themes of our village fete – from the sideshows and stalls, children’s races and dog show to the magnificent shire horses and fantastic ferret racing, the much-loved vintage cars and Silver Band. As well as the many stalls and activities around the Green, the Horticultural Society will be displaying their produce along with arts and crafts entries in the marquee. Well worth a visit. We have a great selection of stalls selling gifts, treats and local produce. As well as traditional tea and cakes, we have lots of other lovely food available, from fish and chips to curry, ice creams and cider, not forgetting the perennially popular barbecue. Of course, a big part of the day is raising as much money as possible for local charities and projects. Last year we were able to donate over £4,500 to eight causes ranging from the Air Ambulance, the Village Hall and Pavilion restoration projects, to our local wildlife group and stoolball club. I hope you can join us for the fete this year, as well as a great day out you’ll be helping to support a variety of local good causes. Have a wonderful time today – and see you again next year! HISTORY SOCIETY - ‘Wisborough Green is an Island’ (Whichever road you choose to enter the village you will have to cross water).

Our display this year takes a look at the historic bridges serving the village and the effects water and waterways have had on the life of our parish.

We look at the ancient bridges, their construction and the controversies, past and present, that have surrounded their building and maintenance. Flooding has often been an issue in our parish and we display archive material relating to some of these events and an heroic rescue.

The Arun-Wey Canal and the Arun Navigation both feature in the history of our parish and had real social and economic effects. We examine the archaeological evidence still present in the landscape and the efforts being made both to preserve and to bring these waterways back to life.

The Society is always pleased to see old photographs and documents relating to the village. If you have any please bring them along to the show or contact our Secretary, Boxal Bridge photo of painting Sue Killingbeck, on 01403 700704. 16 Two Charities we are supporting this year Riding for the Disabled Happy Landings Driving Group

The Wisborough Green Fete is pleased to be supporting Riding for the Disabled this year.

Happy Landings Driving Group is a local charity affiliated to the Riding for the Disabled Association that provides opportunities for people with disabilities to participate and enjoy an engaging outdoor activity. Horse drawn carriage driving provides an uplifting and stimulating experience, enabling those we help to also develop relationships with our ponies, others with disabilities and our volunteers. We are proud to be celebrating 25 successful years.

Assisting the participants are a team of trained volunteers including driving coaches, followers on bicycles and a loading team - all ensuring a safe environment. Custom made carriages are used to take wheelchairs together with other specialist support equipment owned and maintained by us. Our ponies are selected for suitability in their role and are also kept by volunteers.

Our Group’s success is down to the generosity of our supporters and dedication of our volunteers. The Group meets once a week from April to October for driving and for social mornings throughout the rest of the year. Anyone wishing to apply to join us will be very welcome and training will be provided. happylandings-rda.co.uk

Firefighters Charity

The Fete will, once again, be supporting The Fire Fighters Charity, which offers specialist lifelong help for members of the UK fire services community.

Working in the fire services brings with it its own unique challenges and many experience periods when wellbeing is challenged.

Thousands of firefighters receive much-needed support, ranging from specialist treatment for physical injury, help with financial hardship, aiding independent living, bereavement support and psychological treatment. 17 The Cricketers Arms The Heart of Wisborough Green 01403 700369
