Lungo il percorso si rende conto che non è solo in questo viaggio e inizia a capire cosa significa essere cittadino del mondo, scoprendo la differenza tra “la vita che viviamo e quella che scegliamo di vivere” e che il meglio e il peggio di ciascuno di noi è spesso rappresentato dai nostri figli. Fa amicizia con tre pellegrini speciali: Josst ( YORIK VAN WAGENINGEN ) un olandese verboso e goloso, Jack ( JAMES NESBITT ) uno scrittore irlandese logorroico e pedante e Sarah ( DEBORAH KARA UNGER ) una bella canadese dalla lingua tagliente. 5° lungometraggio di Emilio Estévez, che dirige per la terza volta suo padre e dedica il film al nonno.
