Wednesday, May 24 – Upon arrival at Dublin Airport we will meet Owen Mohen, our Irish driver/guide in the Arrivals Hall. Our flight is scheduled to arrive at 6:35am. Once everyone has convened, Owen will escort us to our motor coach to begin our journey which will be filled with Irish culture, history, music and, of course, the hospitality the Irish are known for. We will stop for tea & scones before traveling to the enchanting Powerscourt Estate and Gardens. The finest designed gardens in Ireland set to dramatic effect at the foot of Sugar Loaf Mountain. Bring your camera for some terrific nature shots. The Estate also has a modern coffee shop/restaurant and gift store. Arrive in Kilkenny this afternoon with time to relax before dinner at the hotel. Overnight: Hotel Kilkenny, Kilkenny (D) Thursday, May 25 – This morning after breakfast we will enjoy a guided tour of 12th century Kilkenny Castle, home to the Butler family for centuries and now restored to its original splendor. Learn about the history and lifestyle of this powerful family and the great influence they had on politics of the region. We will then journey south to New Ross to visit the Dunbrody Emigrant Ship which provides a unique insight into a period of history which shaped modern day Ireland and the U.S., the Great Famine, and the reasons so many people emigrated to America in the mid 19th century. Enjoy the remainder of your day at leisure in Kilkenny City, a vibrant, flourishing city with a fascinating medieval history and a thriving crafts industry. Kilkenny City is a hip, cosmopolitan destination with a diverse range of restaurants, lively pubs and bars. This city is also home to the popular brew, ‘Smithwicks’. Try a pint at Kyteler’s Inn and hear the fascinating story of Dame Alice Kyteler. Was she really a witch? Listen to the story and make your own decision. Overnight: Hotel Kilkenny, Kilkenny (B) Friday, May 26 – After breakfast we will depart Kilkenny. Our first stop will be the House of Waterford Crystal. We’ll observe skilled craftsmen blow, cut, and polish this Irish keepsake. Peruse the exquisite showrooms and shop for the perfect piece to bring home. Waterford is Ireland’s oldest center of continuous urban settlement and is consequently Ireland’s oldest city. We continue along the coast of Southeast Ireland for a walking tour of legendary city of Cobh in Co. Cork, the final port of call of the doomed Titanic, and departure point for countless emigrants, with its fascinating history and character. We’ll also see the Choctaw “Indian” monument. Fascinating story. Then we’re off to the charming seaside village of Kinsale, known as the “foodie” capital of Ireland and highlighted by colorful buildings and an equally colorful history. Overnight: Trident Hotel, Kinsale (B, D) Saturday, May 27 – A delicious breakfast, then off to the world famous Blarney Castle, home of the legendary Blarney Stone; kiss it and you’ll never again be lost for words. There will be time also for a visit to the adjacent Blarney Woolen Mills, a favorite of shoppers. Return to the picturesque and historic medieval fishing port of Kinsale to enjoy on your own this evening. Try one of the many fantastic restaurants in town. Overnight: Trident Hotel, Kinsale (B) Sunday, May 28 – After breakfast we’ll visit the Rock of Cashel, traditional seat of the kings of Munster dating from the 12th and 13th centuries. After an audio/visual presentation there will be time to stroll the grounds on our own and take some photographs of this stunning location. Arrive in Dublin this afternoon and relax as Owen takes us on a driving tour of this ancient city, which was once occupied by the Vikings. Drive by St. Patrick’s Cathedral, final resting place of Jonathan Swift, as well as many other famous landmarks. The remainder of the day is yours to explore this fabulous city. Overnight: Jurys Inn Parnell Square, Dublin (B) Monday, May 29 – This morning we’ll visit Trinity College. The library is home to the world-renowned 9th century Book of Kells, an illuminated manuscript with meticulous artwork around the borders. This afternoon we’ll continue on to the Guinness Storehouse where we can explore exhibits with over 250 years of creative history. The tour ends in the Gravity Bar with a pint of Guinness and a great 360 degree view of Dublin. The afternoon is free to explore the city before an included dinner and show at The Brazen Head, Dublin’s oldest pub. Overnight: Jurys Inn Parnell Square, Dublin (B, D) Tuesday, May 30 – After enjoying one last full Irish breakfast, we’ll head to the Dublin Airport and say goodbye to the Emerald Isle.
