The MERCY Momentum Prayer Knowledge Service The MERCY Momentum Prayer Knowledge Service SPRING, 2011 Volume 15, Issue 2 Our Lady of Mercy School provides Catholic foundations for a life of prayer, knowledge, and service. Principal’s Preface Youth Legislature 2011 The hour is now approaching Mardi Gras 2011. This Catholic tradition celebrates the preparation for the Lenten season. This traditional preparation for Lent reminds me that we move through life always waiting for something. Lent reminds us of our Lord‟s sacrifice and Resurrection for each one of us. This time of year finds us giving up or sacrificing chocolates, television, fried foods or Facebook for a short time in our relatively long existence. Before Lent began, I talked with our students for a moment after mass one day about the act of sacrifice. I encouraged the students that along with giving up their computer games or arguing with their siblings, they could also „do‟ something. I challenged them to more fully participate in mass. Most of our students are very well behaved in mass. They know appropriate behavior during mass. Before our classes move across campus to enter Social Studies teacher George Cunningham and eighth grade Church, teachers make sure that students take care of student Elizabeth Metzger make preparations for the annual personal needs. Over the years, the committee has participated in helping our school faculty and staff during happy or diffi- cult times. Weddings, births, illnesses, or during periods of family bereavement . these are all times when a little extra lift is truly appreciated. Funds for the com- mittee are generated through annual dues and the sup- port of parent organizations. Keeping true to the sense of celebrating even the small things here at Mercy, sometimes the lift occasion- ally arrives when it is just time to have a little FUN. For members of our faculty and staff, that fun usually coin- cides with pay day! Each month, the dedicated commit- tee plans creative activities to involve all members. With positive goals in mind, these activities spark a sense of shared fun and community among the members. Serving as the planning committee for the 2010-11 school year are: Jerri Trahan, Wendy Coniglio, Kelly Forbes, and Amanda Martin. At the onset of football season, tailgating was the predominant theme. Great prizes for some lucky mem- During February, members were heart healthy! Some of the activities planned do require a bit of in- volvement among faculty and staff members. American Heart Month was celebrated in February, and all members were given pedometers to track their steps as they went about their day. The gym was available on February 15th, and music was provided for walkers who wanted to walk the extra steps towards their heart health awareness. Walkers were given water bottles, and participants‟ names were placed in drawings for additional prizes. March Madness swept the country on March 14th, and the Mercy campus was no exception. During “Mercy‟s March Madness”, committee members were invited to participate in a free throw contest held throughout the day. On March 15th, the Final Four included faculty mem- bers Cheryl Marchand, Julie Modica, Michelle Newman, and Kirsten Steintrager. These four battled it out until the next elimination between Marchand and Modica, which resulted in Julie Modica as the free throw cham- pion!! As it is certain that some stories have come home in regard to some of the “not so ordinary” behavior among faculty members on these special days . hopefully, this has helped to serve as a brief explanation for such! A spe- cial thanks to those who plan these special times for eve- ryone, and to the parent organizations who lend addi- tional support to these activities. These gestures are in- deed “uplifting”! Senior women are incapable of reproduction, mastering their bodies, or arousing sexual desire in themselves or others. The senior actresses’ I explore in the case studies below insert their performances of self and their everyday lives into the large and complicated discourse of sex, producing a counter-narrative to sexually inactive senior women. Their performances actively embody their sexuality outside the frame of a character. This thesis examines how senior actresses’ performances of sexuality extend a discourse of sexuality imposed on older woman by mass media. These women are the public face of senior women’s sexual agency.

Mercy Medical Center Community Health June 8 The Sisters of Mercy Needs Assessment & welcome all people of every Implementation 2016 creed, color, economic and Strategy social condition. Community health needs assessments (CHNA) and implementation strategies are required of tax- exempt hospitals as a result of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The CHNA and implementation strategies create an important opportunity to improve the health of communities by ensuring that hospitals have the information they need to provide community benefits that meet the needs of their communities. They also provide an opportunity to improve coordination of hospital community benefits with other efforts to improve community health. On December 31, 2014, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) published final rules implementing the “Additional Requirements for Charitable Hospitals” section of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The hospital facility must "conduct" a community health needs assessment ("CHNA") during the current taxable year or in either of the two taxable years immediately preceding such taxable year and an "authorized body of the hospital facility" must adopt an "implementation strategy" to meet the community health needs identified through the CHNA. Included in this document is Mercy Medical Center’s CHNA and Implementation Strategy as approved by the Mercy Health Services Mission & Corporate Ethics Committee on June 8, 2016. November 28, 2012 Arab-American Media Bringing News to a Diverse Community FOR FURTHER INFORMATION: Tom Rosenstiel, Director Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism Amy Mitchell, Deputy Director, Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism (202) 419-3650 1615 L St, N.W., Suite 700 Washington, D.C. 20036 www.journalism.org Arab-American Media: Bringing News to a Diverse Community Overview If it were just a matter of population growth, the story of the Arab-American media would be a simple tale of opportunity. Over the last decade, Arab Americans have become one of the fastest growing ethnic groups in the United States. But the story of the media trying to serve that audience is more complicated than that: The Arab-American population across the United States is ethnically diverse. Arab-American media are being buffeted by the same technology and economic trends as the news media generally, as well as a more challenging advertising market. And, advancements in technology have brought new competition from Arab outlets located in the Middle East and North Africa. Overall, the current Arab-American news media are relatively young. Newspapers and news websites are currently the most prominent sector, with much of the coverage focused on community news and events. There is also coverage at the national level, though, and recently, the Arab uprisings have given rise to more international coverage of news from “back home.” A number of papers are seeing rising circulation. Some new publications have even launched. However, most papers are still struggling to recover financially from the economic recession of 2007 and at the same time keep up with the trends in digital technology and social media.
