Please see link to website http://www.clgnafianna.com/na- fianna-easter-camp-2017/ Na Fianna Nuacht 7ú Aibreán 2017 3 Na Fianna Nuacht Na Fianna’s Dubs Best of luck to Jonny Cooper, Conor McHugh and Dublin’s Senior footballers in Sunday’s League Final against Kerry. Dublin are seeking to extend their unbeaten run in the League and Championship to thirty seven games and a victory on Sunday would also secure a fifth successive NFL1 title for Dublin. Good luck to Niamh Gleeson, Niamh Rock, Orla Gray and Dublin Camogie Minors who play Championship semi-final on Sunday. A first Championship semi-final in almost ten years for Dublin, the girls will play Clare in St Brendan's Park Birr, throw in at 2pm. Best of luck also to Eva Ahern, Molly Cassidy and Sophia Nyhan playing for the Dublin U-14 Ladies footballers against Laois this weekend. Congrats to Dublin under-21 footballers (pictured below) including Eoin Murchan, Aaron Byrne (Man of the Match) and Glenn O’Reilly on last week’s Leinster Final win over Offaly. Dublin’s backroom team was also made up of strong Na Fianna representation including Dessie Farrell, Phil McElwee, Cathal Ó Torna, John Campbell and Pat Naughton. Dublin will play winners of Donegal and Derry on Easter Saturday. Na Fianna Nuacht 7ú Aibreán 2017 4 Na Fianna Nuacht Na Fianna Golf Society Na Fianna Golf Society’s first outing of 2017 will be held in St Margarets on Monday April 24th, tee time 2-3.30, timesheet now available form Ciaran Gray 0872269133. Na Fianna Golf Society was formed in the 1970s and what was one annual outing became more popular so additional outings were played. It was, and still is an opportunity for members past and present to meet each other outside of the normal GAA environment. Membership is open to all members both current and past. We have three outings this year with the first outing in St Margarets on Monday 24th April. There will a further outing in early June, venue to be confirmed, and the Captain’s outing will be to Clontarf at the end of August. This year’s Captain is Jimmy Gray. Captain’s prize winner receives the Sterling Winthrop Cup and the Golfer of the Year is awarded to the player with the best overall scores from the three outings and receives the Denis Gray Memorial Cup. Inter Ladies Team Win Championship Debut Well done to Na Fianna’s New Inter team who made their 2017 debut on Wednesday 29th March last at home against Portobello in the Cup and won! Watch this space. Na Fianna Nuacht 7ú Aibreán 2017 5 Na Fianna Nuacht First League Outing For Senior Ladies Our Senior Ladies footballers played their first Division One league match last Wednesday night, 5th April against reigning Dublin & Leinster champions, Foxrock Cabinteely. Sadly lost 2-7 to 2-10 but the team played with huge passion & with a bit more luck, Na Fianna could have won the game. Several brilliant individual performances but more impressive was how the team worked as a unit and supported each other from beginning to end. Na Fianna Rounders Teams Start 2017 Season Our three Adult teams (Womens, Mens and Mixed) played Limekiln, Dublin at Johnstown Park on Saturday 25th March. It was a beautiful sunny day and Na Fianna had a number of new players (young and not so young) making their first appearances. The Mens team was first up to bat and despite a number of excellent strikes and catches were unable to contain Limekiln who ran out comfortable winners. The Mixed team was next up and put up a good performance but again were out-gunned by a very experienced Limekiln team (current All-Ireland Mixed Rounders champions). The Womens game was a much tighter affair, with some superb play by Na Fianna who got closest of all 3 teams to Limekiln (All-Ireland Womens Runners-up in 2016) - but Limekiln eventually prevailed. Na Fianna Nuacht 7ú Aibreán 2017 6 Na Fianna Nuacht Limekiln (a dedicated Rounders only club) and Na Fianna are the only clubs in Ireland (and the World!) to have 3 Adult Teams operating. Our next games (Womens and Mixed) are away to Cuchulainn, Carlow (in Ballon) on 9th April. Na Fianna Rounders welcome new Adult members of any age/ ability. Check this out. In 2010, Boden participated in 1,500 competitive games across the four codes. Given that this also involved 1,500 teams from Criostóir Ó Cuana, Úachtarán Cumann Lúthchleas Gael performs the official opening of the other clubs with an average of 20 players per squad this Sancta Maria Complex watched by Terry O’Neill, Club Chair; Cllr. Eamonn Maloney, Mayor of South Dublin; Joan O’Flynn, Úachtarán, Cumann Camógaíochta; Colin Moran and Fr. Jimmy amounts to a total of 60,000 players taking part in gaelic games Murray, O. Carm., PP, St. Colmcille’s Knocklyon playing activity involving the club. And of course don’t forget the 1,500 referees. It is a phenomenal number. Add in all the training sessions and discussions associated with each team and the impact of this voluntary activity is truly enormous. As the country faces into difficult economic times, it is heartening to see such endeavour complemented with characteristics like passion, spirit and hope. These qualities are not in short supply in Ireland and if we can harness them properly we will overcome our problems. The club itself was overcome with joy in 2010 with the marvellous four-in-a-row senior hurling titles – an achievement that places the club among the ranks of great clubs.

Dublin GAA have, in conjunction with the national GAA organisation, liaised with DCU about assessing the movement skills of children in Ireland. The GAA, with SFI and DCU, have implemented the project. Just 11% of Irish teens have mastered fundamental movements that they should have mastered by the age of 6. While investigating the factors that motivate children to partake in physical activity, the existing research emphasises the importance of developing the fundamental movement skills in children. Tackling these problems requires a new perspective. In this vision, the individual has the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for maintaining purposeful physical pursuits/activities throughout the lifecycle. This singular, unique and ambitious project is assessing 3000+ students around the country with a view to better understand the relationship between physical literacy, health related fitness, wellbeing and physical activity. The "Moving Well - Being Well" project is the largest of its kind globally.     2021 GAA MEDIA GUIDE Treoirleabhar na Meán 2021 @officialgaa 2021 GAA Media Guide - Teachtaireacht ón Uachtaráin Ba mhaith liom fáilte a chur romhaibh go léir ar ais chuig ár gcluichí The last 14 months have come as a challenge to us all and while we have some distance to travel before we can once again look forward to big games with full stadiums, there are green shoots ahead of us. Who could have known in mid-March last year when we took the decision to shut our activities down, that the Covid challenge would still be front and centre as the summer of 2021 approaches? The best of the GAA shone as we grappled with profound changes to our lives and the supports provided by our club and county network to those who needed them most was both heartening and reassuring. Our games when they returned were a welcome tonic. The club championships and all of the activity that preceded them helped breathe life back into communities right across the GAA family. Similarly, in the darkest days of winter the inter-county games provided us with a focal point and a welcome distraction as we grew accustomed to supporting our players and teams from afar. In the coming weeks, the Allianz League games will come thick and fast and the interest and excitement will follow. We have shown flexibility in organising our competitions, most notably in football where again a straight knockout approach will apply. I would like to acknowledge the buy-in from everyone concerned in helping to make both last year and this season work, and I have no doubt that the entertainment value and profile of the games will be as high as ever.

Transfers within a county are dealt with under Rule 6.8 of the Official Guide 2009, Book 1. This rule, in identical terms, was to be found at Rule 38 of the Official Guides of 2007 and 2008.     ‘Players or Patriots? The GAA and the 1916 Rising’ Dr Richard McElligott I Shortly after midday on Easter Monday 1916, the Argentinean born Eamon Bulfin climbed onto the roof of the GPO and unfurled the Irish Republican tri-colour. Bulfin, the commander of the UCD battalion of the Irish Volunteers, was also a promising hurler having captained the University’s Fitzgibbon Cup winning team in 1915.1 Bulfin was one of 302 players from fifty-two separate Dublin GAA clubs who numbered among the Easter rebel’s combined force of 1,500. There is evidence of a large degree of participation by individual Dublin GAA clubs with sixty-nine members of the St Laurence O’Toole club alone taking part in the fighting.2 In the GPO, Bulfin was joined by the likes of J.J. Walsh (the ex-Chairman of the Cork GAA and later Minister for Posts and Telegraphs in the Irish Free State Government), Domhnall Ó Buachalla, (the captain of the Kildare footballers and Ireland’s first Governor General), Harry Boland (the president of the Dublin GAA) and a young Michael Collins who had been active in the London GAA before returning home to take part in the rebellion. Other notable figures in the rebellion with GAA connections included Frank Burke (a UCD student and native of Kildare who would become the greatest dual player of his generation, winning five All- Ireland titles as a hurler and footballer with Dublin), Sean T.
