Obion County Schools will make every effort to utilize multiple methods of communication to inform students and families of cancelations and delays. Our top priority when making the determination to cancel, delay, or dismiss early is the safety of our children. Further, we will make every effort to make decisions around inclement weather as early as possible so that our families will be able to make the arrangements needed for child care. We appreciate your support and understanding of the difficulties in making these decisions. Listed below are the resources we use to publicly announce school delays or closings. Please tune to one of these stations to access information about school delays, cancelations, and early dismissals. WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. Gary W. Powley; and WHEREAS, Mr. Powley was an exemplary public servant and consummate professional who worked assiduously to improve the quality of life for his fellow citizens in numerous capacities; and WHEREAS, Mr. Gary W. Powley served with acumen and alacrity as a radio personality in a broadcasting career that spanned an impressive thirty years, in which position he earned the respect of his peers and superiors alike for the exemplary quality of his work; and WHEREAS, a native of Carroll County, Mr. Powley graduated from Hollow Rock- Bruceton Central High School in 1966; during this time, he played baseball, football, and basketball and was a drummer in several local bands; and WHEREAS, Mr. Gary W. Powley’s career in radio began in 1968 at WENK-AM in Union City; and WHEREAS, this remarkable man was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1969, Mr. Powley served with courage and integrity for fourteen months in Korea; and WHEREAS, this dedicated professional then worked as an announcer and sportscaster at WTPR and WTPR-FM, now WAKQ-FM, in the early and mid-1970s, which set the ground work for him to take other jobs at radio stations in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Louisiana as an announcer, salesman, sportscaster, newsman, and programmer; and WHEREAS, returning to Tennessee, Mr.

The decision comes following a campus visit by Jones Lang LaSalle Americas, lnc. as a facilities management service provider recently contracted by the state of Tennessee. ln 2OI5, the University of Tennessee System was invited to participate in a process to identify possible opportunities to reduce costs for the operation of all state facilities including higher education. UT President Joe DiPietro asked the leadership of each campus to work with JLL to enable them to make proposals for facilities operations and determine what is in the best interests of the campus. Each campus will present their decision to the board of trustees at the UT Board of Trustees meeting Nov.3 in Knoxville. The master contract allows authorized entities such as University of Tennessee institutions to utilize the JLL contract, which primarily provides for custodial, grounds and repair and maintenance facilities management services using a cost-plus fees service model. Following the site tour, JLL submitted a proposal for providing services to UT Martin with cost- reduction opportunities of $93,366 annually. Most projected savings were within the university's housing auxiliary operations. Upon further examination of the proposal, it was determined that the estimated cost reduction in the JLL proposal would be less than $14,000 annually. The adjustment is due to the duplication of $80,000 in both the housing grounds and maintenance budgets when providing data to JLL.
