2021 BOWIE BAYSOX GAME NOTES Saturday, May 8, 2021 - 4:00 p.m. Peoples Natural Gas Field -- Altoona, PA Bowie Baysox (3-1) @ Altoona Curve (1-3) RHP Cody Sedlock (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. RHP Brenan Hanifee (0-0, 0.00 ERA) Game #5 // Road Game #5 2021 SEASON About Last Night: Bowie rallied from an initial 2-0 deficit to take a 4-2 lead, but could not hang on as the Altoona Overall Record 3-1 Curve won, 5-4 in 10 innings. Chris Hudgins hit his first home run of the season in the sixth, a two-run shot and the Home Record 0-0 first Baysox home run with a man on base. With the game still tied at two in the seventh, Patrick Dorrian doubled Road Record 3-1 to begin the inning and continue his strong start to the young season. Altoona then scored three unanswered to Versus Southwest Division 3-1 win the game.     Orioles select Adley Rutschman with the first overall pick in the 2019 MLB First-Year Player Draft Posted by TBN(Staff) On 06/03/2019 The Baltimore Orioles tonight announced that they have selected catcher ADLEY RUTSCHMAN from Oregon State University with the first overall selection of the 2019 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Rutschman, 21, hit .411/.575/.751 (76-for-185) with 10 doubles, 17 home runs, 57 runs, 58 RBI, and 76 walks in 57 games during his junior season. He guided Oregon State to their 20th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. His .575 on-base percentage and 76 walks led all of Division I. During the regular season, he led the PAC-12 Conference in batting average, on-base percentage, and walks, and tied for the conference lead in slugging percentage. He was named the 2019 PAC-12 Player of the Year, PAC-12 Co-Defensive Player of the Year, All-PAC-12 First-Team, and PAC-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention. Rutschman was also named the 2019 Collegiate Baseball Player of the Year as well as a Collegiate Baseball First-Team All-American. He is one of four finalists for the 2019 Golden Spikes Award, which honors the top amateur baseball player in the nation. He was ranked as the No. 1 overall draft prospect by Baseball America and MLB.com.     For Immediate Release: May 7, 2021 Contact Information: Tonya Atta Director of Operations & Communications Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission 316.265.6236 2021 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award presented by the Kamerion Wimbley Foundation Watch List Updated WICHITA, KANSAS – The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission has added eight catchers to the official watch list of the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award presented by the Kamerion Wimbley Foundation: Eric Bigani, JR UNLV Andrew Cossetti, JR Saint Joseph’s Angelo D’Acunto, JR Holy Cross Hunter Goodman, SO Memphis Jerry Huntzinger, SR Seton Hall Coltyn Kessler, SR Kentucky Logan Tanner, FR Mississippi State Nick Thornquist, SR UTSA This year, eighty-eight catchers have been nominated for the award by their schools. The watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists, whom will be announced May 20, 2021. Ballots will be sent to the national voting committee at the end of May for a vote to determine the three finalists. The finalists will be announced June 7, 2021. A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced at the 23rd Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on July 1, 2021. Because the Buster Posey Award strives to honor the top collegiate catcher in a season, a 2020 recipient was not named due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of the collegiate baseball season.     DICK HOWSER TROPHY COMMITTEE Contact: Bo Carter ([email protected]) June 15, 2019 OREGON STATE’S RUTSCHMAN NAMED 2019 DICK HOWSER TROPHY RECIPIENT OMAHA, Neb. – Catcher Adley Rutschman of Oregon State is the 33rd recipient of the Dick Howser Trophy, presented by The Game Headwear, as college baseball's Player of the Year. The announcement came at a national news conference Saturday morning at TD Ameritrade Stadium as OSU’s first winner of the prestigious award met with a group of national media. He is the first Beavers player honored with the Howser Trophy, which originated in 1987. Rutschman also is the fourth recipient to be the first overall selection in the Major League Baseball free agent draft and capture the award, joining Clemson pitcher Kris Benson (1996), Vanderbilt pitcher David Price (2007) and San Diego State pitcher Steve Strasburg (2008). Rutchsman was selected by the Baltimore Orioles as the opening player in last week’s draft. The 2019 consensus first team All-America choice was honored in voting by the Howser Trophy committee and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. He is the second all-time winner from the Pac-12 Conference after Mark Prior of Southern California captured the 2001 honor. Rutschman, a 6-2, 216-pound switch hitting and righty throwing junior catcher from Sherwood, Ore., also was the 2019 Pac-12 Player of the Year, the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, and a finalist for the Buster Posey Award, which honors the nation’s top catcher in 2019 and is named in honor of the 2008 Dick Howser Trophy recipient.
