E-mail: [email protected] Abstract The purpose of this study was to carry out the economic analysis of sheep farming in Isparta province, Turkey. The primary material of the study was comprised of original data acquired via survey method from a total of 80 farms determined by way of stratified sampling method. Accordingly, the farms were classified according to their size as 1st group (1-100 sheep, 23 farms), 2nd group (101-200 sheep, 22 farms) and 3rd group (>200 sheep, 35 farms). It was determined based on the study results that the production costs per animal unit (AU) decreases and net profit increases with increasing farm size. Indeed, production costs per animal unit in 1st, 2nd and 3rd group farms were determined as 5 424.13 TL, 4 221.83TL and 3 450.79 TL respectively, whereas net profits were determined as 2 467.26 TL, 2 761.26 TL and 3 314.77 TL. -

In the country, there is availability of 64 liter milk, 11 kilogram meat and 32 eggs. There shall be increased in the production of 35% milk, 25% meat and 45% eggs in the present production, to meet the minimum annual consumption of livestock production as 91 liter milk, 14 kilo meat and 48 eggs in the developed country. In this way, there is important contribution of buffalo, goat, sheep, pig, poultry etc. for especially meat production in livestock production. Likewise, Gorkha district is very important from point of view of goat farming. There are more than 200 thousand goats, and establishment of nearly 250 commercial goat farms in the district at present. Especially, Jamunapari crossed, Khari crossed, Barbari crossed breeds goats are available here. In the recent time, it has also been started of importing Boer crossed goats in this district. District Livestock Development Office (DLSO) has already developed former Bakrang Village Development Committee (VDC) and Dhawa VDC as a resource center of Boer goat; whereas, rearing of Boer goat have also been started through Women’s Cooperative in former Barpak VDC (Sulikot Rural Municipality- RM, Ward-1 & 2) from the support of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Nepal from this year. -

In a context of reduction of the number of farms, due to the low income derived from the sale of kids, the role of those systems as suppliers of presently non-remunerated ecosystem services becomes more relevant. The objective of this article is to analyze the current situation of those systems, focusing on their connection with human wellbeing, and to formulate proposals that can contribute to guaranteeing their profitability and continuity. A technical-economic and environmental study of a sample of farms and an analysis of the limiting factors affecting the subsector were carried out. As a result, a set of multifactorial problems was identified, with the lack of acknowledgement and remuneration of some services—mainly environmental and cultural—provided by those systems and the low selling price of kids standing as the main threats. -

Bu çalışmada, değişime direnme, uyarlanma veya karşı stratejiler geliştirme biçimlerini anlayabilmek için modernleşmeci kuramdan ziyade bireyi aktif bir eyleyici olarak ele alan Pierre Bourdieu’nün eylem kuramının açımlayıcı perspektifine başvurulmuş; dışsal faktörlerin dönüştürücü etkinliği karşısında farklı kırsal yerleşmelerde eyleyicilerin geliştirdikleri uyarlanma stratejilerinin nasıl farklılık gösterdiği sorusuna üç farklı kırsal yerleşim örneği üzerinden yanıt aranmıştır. 2013-2016 yılları arasında derinlemesine görüşme ve doğrudan gözlem tekniklerini kullanarak gerçekleştirilen alan araştırmasında, Isparta ili Gönen ilçesine bağlı Kızılcık, Baladız (Gümüşgün) ve İğdecik köylerindeki değişim farkı, bu yerleşimlerdeki eyleyicilerin tarihsel olarak içselleştirdiği eylem hatlarında ve sahip oldukları sermaye türüne ve hacmine dayanan uyarlanma stratejilerindeki farkta aranmıştır. DOI: 13 10.31080/ASNH.2020.05.08 Abstract As per the 20th livestock census (2019), the population of goat in India is 148.88 million, which is 10.14% higher than the same in the 19th livestock Census, 2012 and around 27.8% of the total livestock population of the country. The increase in livestock popula- - tion is always associated with the problem of waste disposal and its possible impact on the environment. Integration of fish farming with livestock husbandry is a viable option, where the livestock waste is recycled for production of fish. The present study encom passes integrated farming of goat and fish by recycling goat manure, a rich source of N (2.7%), P (1.7%) and K (2.9%) and protein (17.3%), for enhancing fish production in pond. The average range of production of goat dung was 106.2 gm - 176.4gm/goat/night for animal weighing 10.5 - 17.5 kg under open grazing system. -

SENER¸ Department of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Gazi University, Ankara, Turkey ABSTRACT Cultivation of poppy as a source of opium alkaloids for legitimate medical purposes has a long tradition in Turkey. The main products are poppy straw and concentrate of poppy straw, obtained from dried poppy capsules. The aims of the study reported in the present article were to establish inorganic element profiles for the poppy-growing provinces of Turkey by means of X-ray analysis by scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectrometry (SEM/EDS) and to explore the potential of the technique for determination of origin. Ten elements (sodium, magnesium, silicon, phosphorus, sulphur, chlorine, potassium, calcium, copper and zinc) were analysed in poppy straw samples from 67 towns in nine provinces. As regards the determination of origin, the most significant finding was the presence of copper and zinc in the poppy straw samples from 8 of the 15 towns in Afyon Province. Since those elements are not normally found in soil, it is assumed that their presence is the result of environmental (industrial) contamination. Differences in the samples from the other eight provinces were less signifi- cant, possibly a result of their geographical proximity. Nevertheless, differences in the samples were apparent. Because the findings are relative rather than absolute in terms of presence or absence of individual inorganic elements, further research is required to convert them into operationally usable results.
