PAGE 3 FREEDOM FLYER SSSTATE COORDINATOR ’’’SSS RRREPORT --- JJJIGGS CCCRESSY I am preparing to go to the Motorcycle Riders because part of my job at Meeting of the Minds is Foundation’s annual national conference called to call out the name of ABATE of South Dakota Meeting of the Minds. It is a conference that I members that have passed away since the last have been going to for the last 15 years. I really time. Many of those names that I call out are enjoy this conference. It is a time when I recharge friends that passed, it is never a good time but it is my motorcycle rights batteries. There are always my honor to remember and pay tribute to them. many of my close friends from across the nation and a few from across the world. There are always Keep Your Knees in the Breeze some great presentations and awesome breakout, Jiggs where TONS of relevant information is shared. Some of the best information is shared out in the middle of the hall when you are sitting with some friends. There is so much info to be shared amongst the people that attend. Whether it is from the old timers or those are there with fresh and innovative ideas. There are also some fun times. Sitting around with those that you have met with similar interest, catching up with them. And, of course, there are the good times in and around the hospitality room. But, there is one somber moment during the conference. That is the time when that bell comes up on the stage for the bell ceremony. That is the time when we honor those brothers and sister that have gone before us. It can be a very sad moment. If you have never been to a bell ceremony, this is how it goes. A person gets up and reads the following. WE TAKE THIS TIME TO HONOR OUR DEPARTED BROTHERS AND SISTERS. "LET THE TOLL OF THE BELL REMIND US OF THE REVERENCE WE OWE TO THEM LET IT BE A REMINDER OF THE FAITH THEY CONFIDE IN US; LET IT BE A REMINDER OF THEIR THIRST FOR FREEDOM; LET US WHO GATHER HERE NOT FORGET OUR OBLIGATIONS AND IN SILENCE, BREATHE A PRAYER FOR THEM THIS MOMENT OF REVERENCE WE DEDICATE TO THE MEMORY OF THESE BROTHERS AND SISTERS WHO HAVE GONE BEFORE US. Then, people call out the name of their brothers and sister that have passed, every time a name is called the bell is rung. That continues till no more names are called. I can tell you that it goes on way too long. The reason I explain the bell ceremony to you is Page 4 FREEDOM FLYER ABATE C HAPLAIN ’’’SSS CCCORNER --- fact I am not even worthy to unbuckle his sandals. Basically, he was saying he was a NOBODY & telling AAAUGGIE MMMINZLAFF them to focus on Jesus who was coming. This registered with me at the time but I blew it off. I have been asked many times this past year I listen to KSLT radio in my truck, in my hot rod what’s up with the new Road Name, NOBODY? & in the house. It seemed like every time I turned Several folks have asked me to explain. The it on, I was hearing one particular song by a meaning behind it is don’t focus on me because I Christian Rock group called Casting Crowns. It kind am just a N0BODY & here I am focused on me. Let of goes like this: me digress… I’m just a nobody, Way back when, there was a cartoon about 1960 Trying to tell everybody, called Auggie Doggie & Doggie Daddy. They were 2 All about somebody, dogs that got into all kinds of mischief. When they That saved my soul, would get caught, they would have this deep laugh Ever since you rescued me, & go on to the next thing to get in trouble about. You gave my heart a song to sing, In High School, in 1960, my friends started calling I’m livin for the world to see, me Auggie Doggie. I don’t really know why, but Nobody but Jesus! maybe I was that trouble maker like in the cartoon Here is the entire song to listen to. that just laughed it off. That name stuck with me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yBzIt_z8oY for 59 years. By the way, my Mother hated it & My goal in life is to be a comfort to all the folks I refused to call me by that name. meet & spread God’s word & let you see Jesus in Fast forward the winter of 2019.

Tightening the Opportunity Gap TM for Youth in our Community Annual Report 2018 A Letter From Our Chief Executive Officer For more than 53 years, Youth & Family Services (YFS) has been a leader, advocate, and innovator in child and family ser- vices. The breadth and depth of our programs have proven to be exceptionally successful in increasing the well-being of children, birth through age 18. It’s an honor and a privilege to present this report highlighting some of our accomplishments from this past year. Many of these achievements were made possible because of the amazing involvement and support of concerned individuals, organizations, businesses, and foundations. In addition to expanding its outreach services, YFS has also been able to keep administrative and fundraising costs below 13%. YFS board members and staff continue to work with parents, educators, law enforcement, other non-profit organizations, and community leaders to ensure the services we provide are effectively meeting the needs of children. Our nine programs deliver comprehensive outreach to underserved youth and families by providing high quality early childhood education, preschool, child care, afterschool and summer youth development programming with academic support and enrichment, intensive case manage- ment for at-risk youth, father involvement and parent engagement, parenting education, mental health counseling and trauma treatment, nutrition and health advocacy services, and violence and substance abuse prevention. Although our services have been a critical component in helping many families become capable, caring, and contributing members of the com- munity, we know more needs to be done. Our programs are filled to capacity, we have waiting lists, and our facilities are overcrowded.

  • Leveling the Playing Field for Children in Our Community
Leveling the Playing Field for TM Children in our Community Annual Report 2019 A Letter From Our Chief Executive Officer For more than 54 years, Youth & Family Services (YFS) has addressed some of our community’s most pressing issues impacting children and families. To be responsive to these needs, YFS has expanded services, developed programs, and implemented well- researched, innovative solutions to address root causes of issues. The breadth and depth of our programs have proven to be exceptionally successful in increasing the well-being of children, birth through age 18. It’s an honor and a privilege to present this report highlighting some of our accomplishments from this past year. Many of these achievements were made possible because of the wonderful support and involvement of concerned individuals, orga- nizations, businesses, and foundations. It is the vision of Youth & Family Services that children in western South Dakota will develop healthy bodies, inquiring minds, wholesome relationships, compassionate hearts, creative spirits, the convic- tion to stand up for themselves and others, and the courage to build a better society. This vision is a roadmap for creating a healthy community where people live in harmony and children grow, learn, and thrive. Over the past year, YFS has made great progress toward accomplishing this vision. The most noticeable is construction of our East Adams Street Campus Expansion. This is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2020. Much effort has been placed into designing an addition that promotes optimal learning for children, especially during the years of significant brain development. With almost 90% of brain development occurring by the age of five, exposing young children to quality learning experiences is critically important to their devel- opment and future academic and financial success.
