From Iron Man to the latest movie Black Panther, all the Marvel solo movies are arranged for its most famous series, Avengers, which makes the Avengers series highly-anticipated. The Avengers was the first Marvel movie that hit more than 1 billion at the box office, and its sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron, was also exalted by fans all around the world. In addition, The Avengers also influences the way movies are made. Before the launch of Iron Man, most movies only told one story that was not related to any other movie. On the contrary, after the Marvel Studios announced the release dates of Avengers movie series and its related solo movies, the concept of “Universe” was formed, which means plots of movies in the same “Universe” are associated with one another. One of the reasons that makes Avengers fascinating and successful is its characters. Avengers consists of several well-known superheroes with different abilities and personalities. Not only the interaction of the characters but the growth of each of them contributes to the attractiveness of the movie. After watching the movie, I was also enchanted by these characters. However, it is also noticeable that the members of Avengers are all White, which arouses my curiosity: Why are these characters all White? Thesis: English Letters Department, Letters and Humanities Faculty, State Islamic University of Syarif Hidayatullah, Jakarta, 2014. This research is aimed at classifying the types of conversational implicature resulted from the non-observance maxims which have been done by the characters Movie Iron Man 3 and then explaining their meanings. The writer uses Grice’s theory for analyzing the conversational implicature that found in the dialogue of the characters in the movie. In conducting research, the writer uses descriptive qualitative method to describe and identify the conversational implicature, without use any statistical procedure in the analysis. The data in this research are collected by watching the movie and taking notes the dialogues that estimate as implicature in data cards. And then the selected data will be analyzed one by one using relevant theory about the research. After analyzing Iron Man 3 Movie, the writer finds conversational implicatures rising because the utterances of the characters non-observance maxims, they are; flouting maxim of quantity (2), flouting maxim of quality (2), flouting maxim of relation (2), flouting maxims of manner (5), opting out maxim of manner (1), opting out maxim of quantity and manner (1) and violating maxim of quantity and manner (1).

    Volume 10 Issue 2 (2021) AP Research Superheroines and Sexism: Female Representation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Folukemi Olufidipe1, Ms. Yunex Echezabal1 1Doral Academy Charter High School, Miami, FL, USA DOI: https://doi.org/10.47611/jsrhs.v10i2.1430 ABSTRACT The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is the highest-grossing film franchise of all time and since the premiere of Iron Man in 2008, it has risen to fame as a source of science-fiction entertainment. Sexism in the film industry often goes brushed aside but the widespread success of Marvel Studios calls attention to their treatment of gender roles. This paper explores the progression of six female superheroes in the MCU and what effect feminist movements have had on their roles as well as upcoming productions in the franchise. This paper used an interdisciplinary, mixed- methods design that studied movie scripts and screen time graphs. 14 MCU movies were analyzed through a feminist film theory lens and whenever a female character of interest was chosen, notes were taken on aspects including, but not limited to, dialogue, costume design, and character relationships. My findings showed that females in the MCU are heavily sexualized by directors, costume designers, and even their male co-stars. As powerful as some of these women were found to be, it was concluded that Marvel lacks in female inclusivity. Marvel’s upcoming productions, many of which are female-focused, still marginalize the roles of their superheroines which is a concern for the future of the film industry. Marvel is just one franchise but this study shows how their treatment of female characters uphold patriarchal structures and perpetuate harmful stereotypes that need to be corrected in the film industry as a whole.

But Stark rejects the offer and humiliates Killian. Six months after the Battle of New Year, Stark experiences the alien invasion. He has built several dozen Iron Man suits. He has an argument with his girlfriend, Pepper Potts. Meanwhile, a terrorist has left the intelligence agencies. His security guard Happy Hogan is badly injured in an attack. He survives that attack but the world believes he has died. Then he starts his revenge and saves his girlfriend. This movie is one of the Marvel movies. This may be the last series of Iron Man. Iron Man 3 is more exciting than Iron Man 1 and 2. The story plot and the fighting scenes are good. The iron man suit is so real. Robert Downey Jr. acting as Tony Stark is especially good. He actually acts what Tony Stark should feel. His jokes make the film not so boring. That’s why I love him and his acting so much. Though this may be the last series of Iron Man, I hope to see more Iron Man films starring Robert Downey Jr.

    LAMORINDA WEEKLY | "Iron Man 3" Published May 8th, 2013 "Iron Man 3" By Derek Zemrak Super hero fans, especially Avengers fans, have been waiting with great anticipation for the release of "Iron Man 3." Most fans of this genre will not be disappointed as "Iron Man 3" delivers a one-two punch of action-packed intense scenes with some timely humor thrown in. Tony Stark, portrayed by Robert Downey, Jr., puts on the metal suit as the world is being attacked by the evil terrorist The Mandarin, played by Oscar winner Ben Kingsley ("Gandhi"). The Mandarin is no Gandhi and Kingsley's performance is not worth an Oscar, as it is a little excessive at times. But then again, this is a movie based on comic book characters. The other supporting cast members include Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow ("Shakespeare in Love") as Stark's love interest and sidekick, Pepper Potts. Oscar nominee Don Cheadle ("Hotel Rwanda") plays Lt. Col. James 'Rhodey' Rhodes. British actor Guy Pearce ("The Hurt Locker," "Moonrise Kingdom") gives a stellar performance as the troubled scientist, Aldrich Killian, who is still haunted by being shunned by Stark years ago. So what is an evil man supposed to do? Get Revenge! "Iron Man 3" is co-written and directed by Shane Black, who set the bar for action flicks in 1987 with "Lethal Weapon." The two previous Iron Man films were directed by indie favorite, Jon Favreau. Black brings his witty style to "Iron Man 3," which the audience will truly enjoy. The film is already setting records at the box office, boasting the second highest grossing film for a weekend opening with $175.3 million at the ticket counter.
