Dan Ellis Club Secretary FA Trophy Preliminary Round up. By Ian Townsend

We’ll do that in alphabetical order, so that we don’t miss anything!

Ashford Town (Middx) hosted Canvey Island, and the visitors got off to the perfect start when Jason Hallett gave them a first minute lead- but they couldn’t hold on to it, the Tangerines getting two in the second half through Kelvin Adjei and Scott Todd. Kane Gilbert, however, thwarted Ashford’s hopes with an equaliser from the spot two minutes from time.

The other Ashford, United, were also at home to an side- Witham Town- and a late goal also thwarted their hopes of victory. An own goal put Witham ahead in the first half, but a Jay May double put the Nuts and Bolts on course for the next round. Then in the very last minute Lewis Byrne-Hewitt levelled for the visitors.

Two goals from Ben Gorham mean that Sevenoaks Town will have to host Aylesbury United in a replay; but Barking won’t have to fly to Guernsey as a Michael Dixon goal six minutes from time gave them victory after Ross Allen had equalised an earlier Abs Seymour opener.

Chichester City left the competition despite scoring two goals- both from Josh Clack- as hosts Barton Rovers had four by then, whilst the least said about Herne Bay’s trip to Berkhamsted the better, as they fell five-nil.

Brentwood Town and United also saw five goals, the hosts getting two of them and falling to eighty-ninth minute defeat. Adam Vyse got the opener for the Bees, Ayo Odukoya the second, but both times Town pegged them back through Michael Toner and Jason Williams. Kurt Smith got that winner.

Burgess Hill Town left the competition at the hands of fellow South East Division side Phoenix Sports, who got both goals of the match in the first half- Jack Hopkins and Kenny Alireu finding the net.

Goals from Sam Bell and Sam Page gave Chipstead victory over FC Romania, Lawrence Neuruba with the consolation, whilst the match between East Grinstead Town and Aveley was postponed.

Grays Athletic hosted Bedfont Sports, and it was their South Central visitors who left happy, Darryl Saunders, Nathan Wood and Keanu Williams giving them a three-nil victory.

Westfield seem to guarantee goals, and they got five at Great Wakering Rovers yesterday. Rovers also got three of their own, so the fans certainly weren’t short of entertainment. Aaron Watson got a hat trick for the visitors, Max Blackmore and Tinashe Nkoma the other two, whilst a Jake Gordon double and a goal from Jon Benton wasn’t enough for the home side, who saw Ollie Woodhouse dismissed just before the end. winner scored by goalkeeper Luke Glover for Haywards Heath Town saw them defeat Bracknell Town at Hanbury Park. Byron Napper had earlier put Heath ahead, only for Dan Carr to equalise for the Robins.

Histon and Corby Town couldn’t find a goal between them, but Hythe Town and Hastings United managed three- and two of them came to United’s striker Ben Pope, who gave Hastings victory after Alex Flisher had opened the scoring for the hosts.

What more can we say about Maldon & Tiptree? The Jammers aren’t only undefeated this season but they’ve won every match, and victory over Cray Valley PM was win fifteen. Charlee Hughes got four goals- that’s sixteen for the season- and Jorome Slew got another (also sixteen in all competitions) as they walloped Cray five-two,Ashley Sains and Francis Babalola replying for the visitors. Here’s another fact- the Jammers have now scored five goals or more in four successive matches, and six times this season.

A Kevin Bossman penalty was the only goal of the game as Marlow defeated Chertsey Town, whilst Johan Caney-Bryan was the only goalscorer as Sittingbourne defeated South Park by the same scoreline.

Soham Town Rangers, however, got three at home to Bury Town, Tom Newman, Sam Mulready and Callum Russell with the goals in a three-nil victory. Jack Adlington-Pile got both of Heybridge Swifts’ goals as they defeated Staines Town two-nil at Wheatsheaf Park.

Tilbury were the biggest scorers of the day, although visitors Waltham Abbey won’t thank us for reminding them of that, as they were on the receiving end of six Dockers goals. Brian Moses got two of them, Oliver Spooner another two, whilst Darren Phillips and Calvin Ekpiteta got the others. Leonne McKenzie and Billy Holland replied for the Abbotts.

Uxbridge heaped more pain on managerless Northwood despite falling behind to an early Alex Witham goal. Callum Bunting, Alan Hedley, Jack Beadle and Mahlondo Martin then got four for the home side.

VCD Athletic hosted AFC Sudbury and took a fourth minute lead through Jack Steventon. They were behind by half time, however, Adam Bailey-Dennis and Joe Whight finding the Vickers net, and in the second half Tom Maycock and Sean Marks made it four-one to the yellows.

Whitehawk scored an own goal to give Romford the lead at the Enclosed Ground, but bounced back to win after the break, David Martin and Connor Tighe with the goals, whilst Whitstable Town and Ware will need to do it all again after a two-two draw. John Ufuah and Tijan Jadama scored for the Oysterboys, Olu Akinsanya got both for the visitors.

Tooting & Mitcham United got back to winning ways at Whyteleafe, two late Danny Bassett goals giving them victory after Ronald Sobowale had earlier equalised Jamarie Brissett’s opener. Today’s Visitors The roots of the modern day Grays Athletic can be traced back as far as 1888, although 1890 has become the de facto established formation date. The reasons for this disparity are almost certainly lost in the mists of time. Grays Athletic therefore celebrated its centenary in 1990, played at The Recreation Ground, Bridge Road from 1906 to 2010, and became members of the Athenian League in 1912. Grays became very strong after the Second World War, winning the in 1945 and winning the Corinthian League and Cup in 1946. They rejoined the Athenian League in 1958 where they remained until 1983. In 1981 the Club Patron Mr Ron Billings purchased the ground and the Club was reformed as a Limited Company in 1982 under the guidance of Jeff and Fred Saxton. In 1983 a fire destroyed the 400-seater stand that included the dressing and kit rooms. Ron Billings came to the rescue by building the Ball Court Complex that included dressing rooms, club room and bar. Grays went on to become Isthmian Division 2 Champions in 1985. The 1987-88 season saw the Club promoted to the then Vauxhall Opel after amassing 100 points. They then won the Essex Senior Cup and the Essex Thameside Trophy. A great FA Cup run in 1988-89 ended in the First Round proper, losing 2-0 away at Bath City. Grays won the League Cup, defeating Enfield in 1991-92. In 1993-94 and 1994-95 the Club won the Essex Senior Cup by defeating Billericay Town on both occasions. Relegated to Division One in 1997, they returned to the Premier Division in 1999-00. The FA Cup campaign in 2000-01 ended with defeat in the First Round proper for the third time, losing 4-0 away at Reading. This signalled the start of major changes with Mike Woodward installed as Director of Football, Craig Edwards as Manager and the departure of Jeff and Fred Saxton after 25 years of loyal service. Season 2002-03 started poorly and saw Edwards depart, being replaced by as player manager who appointed Scott Barrett as his assistant. Ahead of the 2003-04 season, the Club made the bold decision to turn most of the players into full time professionals, with the majority of players in their early twenties. Despite being knocked out of the FA Cup in the second qualifying round, 2004-05 became the most successful in the Club’s history. Stimson and his players won a number of manager and player of the month awards, with three players being called into the England National XI squad: Stuart Thurgood, and Dennis Oli. The ultimate success being crowned League Champions of the Nationwide Conference South and winning the FA Trophy; beating Hucknall Town on penalties at Villa Park. Additionally, the Recreation Ground had been upgraded sufficiently to allow for promotion into the Nationwide Conference for season 2005-06. Mark Stimson’s philosophy of entertaining the crowds proved to be very successful with a blend of youthful exuberance and the outstanding quality of the more experienced players. Having equalled the Conference record of Kettering Town and going unbeaten in the first 15 fixtures of the season, both manager and players alike won several monthly awards. A contentious 3-0 defeat at the hands of Mansfield Town in the FA Cup was put to one side as the team turned their attention to the FA Trophy and the league. The Club’s first season in the top flight of non-league ended in disappointment as they finished 3rd in the league, and went on to lose 5-4 on aggregate to Halifax Town in the play-off semi-finals. The team put the loss behind them as they won a second successive FA Trophy, this time winning 2-0 against Woking at Upton Park in front of more than 8,000 of their own fans in an attendance of nearly 15,000. Harry Rush got a double for Hanwell Town, but sadly AFC Dunstable got four, whilst a late Following Mark Stimson’s resignation, the Club appointed former European Cup winner to manage the side in the summer of 2006. Despite the pre-season expectations, Gray only lasted 18 matches before both and Mick Woodward had short spells in charge of the first team. Andy King was appointed manager, but his spell was short-lived and he left shortly afterwards, taking control of just seven matches. was the club’s 4th manager of the season, and under his leadership the Club reached the FA Trophy semi-finals where they lost to eventual winners Stevenage Borough. Survival in the League went to the last day of the season and despite losing 1-0 to Morecambe, the club stayed up courtesy of other results going their way. An extremely indifferent 2007-08 campaign ultimately led to the Edinburgh’s departure, before once again Mick Woodward took the reins with Gary Phillips as his assistant. With only three defeats in the final 17 games, Grays only ended 11 points outside the playoffs. The management led the side into the following season, but Mick Woodward stepped down, and replaced himself with who stayed in the job for four months before leaving the Club. Gary Phillips was promoted from assistant manager for the remainder of the season and the club finished in 19th position. 2009-10 turned out to be the fifth and final in the Conference Premier as both John Moncur (Chairman) and Andy Swallow (Chief Executive) joined the Club. was brought in to replace Gary Phillips in September 2009, and Kenny Brown was soon appointed his assistant after resigning from his position as manager of CD Javea in Spain. The team struggled throughout the season, winning just five league matches and losing in their opening rounds of both the FA Cup and FA Trophy. The Blues did however manage to end the season on a high, winning two of their final three fixtures – the first of those away AFCat Wimbledon. In doing so, they recorded their first away league win for 16 months. The final day of the season was a sad affair for the Club, as we said farewell to the Recreation Ground after 114 years. Both the team and the fans did their part, as the team came back to beat Forest Green Rovers 2-1 with Allseny Cissoko scoring the last goal at the ground. Following relegation, the Club resigned from the Conference, deciding they would be unable to field a competitive team in the Conference South due to budget constraints. Following talks with both the FA and the Ryman League, the Club were eventually placed in the Ryman League Division One North. The end of that season saw the expiry of the lease at the Recreation Ground, and without a home, the Club agreed a two-year deal to play at Rookery Hill, home of near neighbours East Thurrock United. The 2010-11 season was our first at this level for ten years, and despite having a solid start to the league campaign, a lack of consistency was evident throughout the remainder of the season which meant the team came up short in several matches, finally finishing in tenth position. Following the disappointing campaign, Julian Dicks and Kenny Brown left the club by mutual consent and the one-time Football League player and ex-Thurrock manager , was appointed as manager with his assistant Hassan Oktay for the 2011-12 season. With Hakan appointed, the remit was to challenge for a playoff place. Despite a few below par performances, the Club secured their playoff place on the penultimate weekend, meeting EnfieldTown in the semi-final. Trailing 2-0 with ten minutes left, the team managed to force extra time with two late penalties. Unfortunately, with the match still level after extra time it was decided on penalties, with Grays losing 3-1. The 2012-13 season was a very successful one for the Club. It started with a move to another temporary home, in Rush Green, Romford in partnership with West Ham United. The ground and its facilities were improved, with the Premier League side responsible for the maintenance of the pitch. With just 4 league defeats and a run of form in the second half of the season which brought with it 18 successive league wins, the Club won the league with three matches to spare, finishing with a club record of 102 points. Approximately one in 12 men inherit colour blindness. It’s carried on the NORMAL VISION X-chromosome, so only one in 200 women inherit the condition. It can be a real issue in football, whether you’re watching, playing, managing or officiating. Imagine not being able to tell the difference between kit colours and how that would affect you, your teammate or your child.

There are three types of colour blindness – and myriad colour combinations which cause problems. The common perception that colour-blind people only confuse reds and greens is a myth. The FA has been working closely with UEFA and specialist organisation Colour Blind Awareness to highlight the issue. The intention is to positively influence COLOUR-BLIND SIMULATION (PROTANOPIA) decision-makers at every level of the game and improve the experience of colour-blind people – whatever their involvement in football. This work has seen the production of a comprehensive guidance booklet. You can read and download it at www.TheFA.com/colourblindness And please visit the Colour Blind Awareness website: colourblindawareness.org for ways you can help maximise awareness. Together, let’s make sure football’s future is FOR ALL. Raúl Tamudo Montero (born 19 October 1977) is a Spanish retired footballer who played as a striker. An icon at Espanyol, he captained the club for almost a decade, playing in nearly 400 official games, winning two Copa del Reys, and being their all-time top goal scorer with 140 goals.

He amassed totals of 407 matches and 146 goals over 17 seasons, also representing in the competition Real Sociedad and Rayo Vallecano. At the start of the 2014–15 campaign, Tamudo netted four times in the first six league games, helping his team to the tenth place in the table. However, during training in October, he suffered an internal meniscus injury to his right knee, going on to be sidelined for several months and being deemed surplus to requirements when he returned to full fitness; Sabadell returned to Segunda División B, and he announced his retirement on 5 September 2015 at the age of 37.

A full international since 16 August 2000 (Germany-Spain, 1–4 loss), Tamudo returned to the lineup after a two-year absence to score a vital goal in a 3–1 UEFA Euro 2008 qualifier away win against Denmark on 13 October 2007. Incidentally, Espanyol teammate Albert Riera also scored.

Previously, Tamudo was part of Spain’s silver medal-winning team at the 2000 Summer Olympics, netting in the semi-final match against the United States. Gonzalo Pineda Reyes (born October 19, 1982) is a Mexican retired footballer. He last played as a defensive midfielder for Seattle Sounders FC in Major League Soccer (MLS) and became assistant coach of the Sounders beginning with the 2017 MLS season.

Gonzalo Pineda was part of Mexico’s Olympic football team, which exited in the first round, having finished third in group A, below group winners Mali and South Korea.

Pineda made his international debut for the senior Mexico national team against Trinidad & Tobago on September 8, 2004 in Mexico’s qualification matches for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

He played mainly as a substitute in ten of Mexico’s qualification matches for the 2006 World Cup and played five games in the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup in Germany, where he converted a Panenka-style penalty kick against Argentina.

In June 2006, he was selected by coach Ricardo Lavolpe, to be part of the 23 man Mexican squad to play in the 2006 FIFA World Cup Tournament in Germany. He started in Mexico’s first three World Cup games.

Pineda was once again called to the Mexico national team during Hugo Sánchez’s tenure as coach. He played for Mexico in Copa América 2007. Prostate cancer kills one man every 45 minutes in the UK 45
