The JCC Humanitarian Youth Awards were held last spring at City Hall are in memory of JCC youth leader Max Rotman. Honouring leadership and volunteerism performed by local high school youth, this year 80 area teens were heralded for many hours of devotion to all ages in need of service. Throughout the city schools, hospitals, recreation centres and seniors’ and nursing homes depend on teens giving their time, whether by assisting professionals or one-to-one assistance, or creating new efforts in easing others’ problems. Chair Howard Katz, JCC President Aubrey Friedman and JCC former President Larry Szpirglas congratulated these amazing people who contribute so greatly to community. Sunni Genesco was the key speaker to the 80 teens. Those who give time to the JCC were Adam Brown, Sasha Katz, Valerie Klassen, Ilana Klinghoffer, Leah Mauer, Evan Schneider, Michael Shkolnik, Deborah Winter. Special thanks to Aaron Lax, who welcomed the familes of these wonderful leaders in their own right.
