Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. Section includes synthetic grass surfacing. 1. Synthetic grass surfacing at exterior applications, consisting of fibers, tufted into a backing of woven and non-woven fabrics with a secondary backing as standard with the manufacturer. With an infill system consisting of manufacturer’s standard rubber granules in combination with sand product. 2. Tufted in game lines and perimeter lines per drawings and NFSHSA requirements. Remaining required game marking shall be permanently inlaid. 3. Written 8-year warranty supported by a 3rd party insured warranty policy from an A-Rated domestic insurance carrier. B. Related Requirements: 1. Section 312000 "Earth Moving" for preparation, compaction, and grading of granular base. 1.3 PREINSTALLATION MEETINGS A. Preinstallation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site . 1.4 ACTION SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: For each type of product. B. Shop Drawings: For synthetic grass surfacing. 1. Include sections and details. 2. Show locations of seams and method of seaming. 3. Show layout of game lines, numbers, and letters. Indicate application method of each line and marking. 4. Show location and layout of team logo/graphics. C. Samples: For each type of synthetic grass surfacing indicated. 1. Turf Fabric: 12 inches square. 2. Game Line Turf Fabric: 12 inches long by actual width. 3. Infill Material: 4 oz. of each type. 4. Shock-Attenuation Pad: 12 inches square. 5. Seam Sample: 24 inches square with seam centered in sample. B. Product Test Reports: For each synthetic grass surfacing assembly, from a qualified testing agency; indicating compliance with requirements: 1. G-max test results performed prior to final completion of the installation. 2. G-max test results performed annually during warranty period. C. Material Certificates: Indicating that characteristics of the product are in compliance with manufacturer's published standards for proposed product. D. Sample Warranties: For special warranties, including independent insurance coverage that covers performance of any warranty repairs. 1.6 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS A. Maintenance Data: For synthetic grass surfacing, including maintenance cleaning instructions, to include in maintenance manuals. 1.7 MAINTENANCE MATERIAL SUBMITTALS A. Furnish extra materials that match products installed and that are packaged with protective covering for storage and identified with labels describing contents. 1. Turf Fabric: Minimum of 300 sq. ft. for each type indicated. 2. Infill: Minimum of One bags of each type. 3. Seaming Tape and Adhesive: One roll of seaming tape and one gallon of adhesive. 4. One new set of maintenance tools, of type recommended by synthetic grass surfacing manufacturer for installation. 1.8 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Installer Qualifications: An entity that employs installers and supervisors who are trained and approved by manufacturer. B. Local experience shall include four fields in the state of Utah, or similar climates, in the past 3 years. C. Turf Installer shall meet the following criteria: 1. Have proper license, in good standing, and have never had a license revoked. 2. Have not had a Surety or Bonding Company finish work on any contract within the last five (5) years. 3. Have not been disqualified or barred from performing work for any public Owner or other contracting entity. 4. Not be currently involved with any patent or trademark litigation, specifically being sued for patent infringement. 5. Must have installed at least10 NFSHSA High School Fields. 6. Testing Agency Qualifications: An independent agency qualified according to ANSI Z34.1 for testing indicated. 1.9 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Store materials in location and manner to allow installation of synthetic grass surfacing without excess disturbance of granular base. 1.10 WARRANTY A. Special Warranty: Manufacturer agrees to repair or replace synthetic grass surfacing that fails in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period. 1. Failures include, but are not limited to, the following: a. Deterioration and excessive wear. b. Deterioration from UV light. c. Excessive loss of shock attenuation. d. Seam separation, including game lines and markings. 2. Warranty Period: 8 years from date of Substantial Completion. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS A. Turf Fabric: Turf fabric tested according to the following methods, with additional test method conditions for each method according to ASTM F 1551. 1. Tuft Bind: Not less than 8 lbf according to ASTM D 1335. 2. Breaking Strength: Minimum 200 lbf in warp direction and minimum 200 lbf perpendicular to warp direction, according to ASTM D 5034. B. Synthetic Grass Surfacing: Assembly tested according to the following methods, with additional test method conditions for each method according to ASTM F 1551. 1. Shock Attenuation: No greater than 165 G(max) at time of installation according to ASTM F 355. 2. Testing shall be performed in the presence of the Architect and Owner’s; representative prior to final completion. 3. Testing shall be included for the second year in service of installed fields. C. Permeability: <40 in./h of rainfall capacity according to ASTM F 2898 or EN 15330-1. D. Source Limitations: Obtain surface system materials, including primers and binders, through one source from a single manufacturer. 1. Provide secondary materials including adhesives, primers, and repair materials of type and from source recommended by manufacturer of playground surface system materials. Synthetic Grass Surfacing: Complete surfacing system, consisting of synthetic yarns bound to water-permeable backing and infill indicated, suitable for baseball playing fields. 1. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, available manufacturers offering products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following: a. A-Turf Incorporated. b. FieldTurf, a Tarkett Sports Company. c. Shaw Sports Turf Division of Berkshire Hathaway. d. Sporturf International Division of Controlled Products, LLC. e. Sprinturf; Specialty Surfaces International. B. Turf Fabric: Woven turf fabric with multicolored fiber and UV resistance, complying with the following: 1. Yarn Fiber: Slit-film polyethylene . 2. Lead Content of Yarn Fiber: Maximum of 100 ppm according to ASTM F 2765. 3. Pile Weight: 60oz/sqyd according to ASTM D 5848. 4. Pile Height: 2 Inches according to ASTM D 5823. C. It was a farming community with few people and widely spaced homes. When mining began in the nearby canyons and the railroad arrived in 1877, Sandy changed from a quiet agricultural village to a booming mining town. There were three smelters and two sampling mills there for testing the ores brought down from the mines. The railroad station was located almost directly across the street from the current-day Sandy Museum. In those days, the museum building was a ZCMI Co-op store where the farmers, miners, and local Native Americans came to buy or trade items.

We want to make sure our students have the opportunity to recover the learning of key concepts so that they can move forward into 3rd quarter with the skills and confidence they need to be successful. Please view page 5 for a summary of how students can recover their possibly lost learning, raise their grade and start 3rd quarter strong for each of their classes. ü Step2theU Applications – It is time for Alta’s 11th Grade students to consider applying for the Step2theU program! This prestigious program is unique to Alta and allows participating students the ability to earn 30 semester university credits and save up to $20,000 in college tuition fees. Applications are due February 1st at 3:00pm. No late applications will be accepted. Week of March 29th, 2021 Alta High School Soar to a New ALTAtude We are an inclusive learning community with a tradition of inspiring, supporting, and collaborating with students as they prepare to be engaged citizens in their pursuit of continuous success. ü State Testing is Coming Up! – Next month, Alta’s 9th and 10th grade students will join high school students throughout Utah in taking the Utah Aspire Plus exam. The Aspire test was designed by ACT and Pearson, Inc. with the goal of providing students a chance to practice taking timed tests in preparation for the ACT college-entrance exam. Utah Aspire Plus scores are predictive of a student’s performance on the ACT. The exam will provide you with feedback on your student’s college- and career-readiness, and help you to pinpoint which courses will best help him or her achieve one of Canyons’ college and career-ready diplomas. Further details will be provided to participating families when we return from Spring Break. ü Class of 2021 Graduation Ceremonies – A copy of the letter with details about this spring’s graduation ceremonies can be found on pages 5 and 6. No decisions have been made regarding the format of graduation as we await further direction from the Governor’s Office, the Salt Lake County Health Department and Canyons District Leadership regarding COVID-19 safety protocols. Graduates interested in auditioning for graduation musical performances should plan to do so on April 28th after school.
