JUDGMENT AND THE MORAL FOUNDATIONS OF POLITICS IN ARENDT'S THOUGHT SEYLA BENHABIB Harvard University JUDGMENT AND MORAL CONSIDERATIONS Hannah Arendt's incomplete reflections on judgment, intended to be the third volume of her work, The Life of the Mind, are puzzling. The perplexing quality of these reflections derives less from the burden on contemporary students of her thought to seek to understand and imaginatively complete what an author might have intended to but was unable to say in her lifetime. Rather this hermeneutic puzzle arses from three different kinds of claims that Arendt makes about judgment and that stand in tension to each other.
