MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION FLU VACCINE CLINIC: The East Shore Health District will be holding a Flu Shot Clinic on Friday, September 24, 10:00 am to 12:30 pm at the Community Center. Vaccines are administered by licensed and experienced nurses from the East Shore Health District. They use a preservative free vaccine and “Senior Strength” vaccine is available while supplies last. If this is your first flu shot please arrive at least 1/2 hour before the end of the clinic. Mark your calendar & plan to stop by to be protected before the start of the 2021 flu season. Please be sure to bring your insurance or Medicare card & wear short sleeves.

ANNUAL CRAFT FAIR: This year’s Annual Craft Fair will be held at the Community Center on Saturday, October 23, from 9:00 am. – 2:00 pm Our seniors have beautiful handmade holiday & everyday decorations & crafts, various sewn creations, jewelry, children’s intrigues, dog/cat toys & garments, as well as charming knitted & crocheted sweaters, hats, etc. Our popular gently used jewelry & books tables are expected to again be well stocked this year as will our Chance Auction. A limited number of private vendors will again join us to offer their special products. Breakfast & lunch will be prepared by the Senior Kitchen staff & will be available at a reasonable cost. We decided to not offer the bake table this year & instead, the kitchen will have a variety of cookies & brownies available for sale with the lunch. The Fair is a fun day offering something for the whole family – all at reasonable prices! This is also an important fund raiser for our 55+ programs. You can help by attending & shopping & by donating any gently used jewelry or books. Jewelry & books can be dropped off at the office any time.

FALL HARVEST DINNER DANCE: On Friday, October 15, 5:00 – 7:30 pm, join us for a fun night of dinner & dancing as we celebrate the Fall Harvest. Choose from Pot Roast or Stuffed Chicken Breast, with a baked potato, vegetable & rolls. There will be a variety of dessert options. After dinner, music for your entertainment & for dancing will be provided by Tom Stankus & Brian Gille, “The Elderly Brothers”. They play music for everyone no matter how old or young at heart you are. Their special blend of wit & music will entertain you & get you out of your chair & onto the dance floor. We are hoping that students from Guilford High School’s C.A.R.E. club will again help with decorating, serving & will join in for the dancing. Tickets are $6.00 & can be purchased in the office.

FALL BOCCE : Sign up now for Fall Bocce, which starts September 14th at 10:00 am at Chittenden Park (27 Seaside Ave). If you signed up for Spring Bocce you do not need to register again, but you do have to let Connor know if you will be playing again. New sign-ups are encouraged! $15.00 registration fee can be paid at the Community Center office & includes the Bocce Banquet. Registration is open until September 1st. We hope to have 40 players signed up with an additional 5 subs. The Award Banquet will be held the last day of Bocce, October 26th at 5:00 p.m. location TBD.

JOYFUL VOICES CHORUS RETURN DELAYED: In the August newsletter we had announced the return of the Joyful Voices Chorus practice starting on Monday, September 13th from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. We were looking forward to again hearing those angelic voices emanating from the Alexander Lounge down the hallway & over to the lunch room. Unfortunately, with the return ruling by the Town Hall to require masks while in the Community Center, we will have to delay the return of the Chorus until sometime in November when hopefully it will be safer to resume this activity. We are hopeful that soon our talented members will be back to not only spend time with friends who share a passion for singing but also will be back to express themselves through song. We will keep you posted.

FREE ASK THE NURSE CLINICS: Our resident VNA nurse has returned to provide free blood pressure checks & health coaching on health-related questions. She will have a table in the lunch room on the last Friday of each month when we celebrate our monthly birthdays. She will be in the Guilford/Whitfield room on Friday, September 24, from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm. Please go over and say hello and have your blood pressure checked & health questions answered. HEAT SMART GUILFORD PROGRAM: Do you want to save money while achieving optimal home heating and cooling? The Town of Guilford and the Guilford Sustainable Task Force have teamed up with the energy advocacy group PACE to create HeatSmart Guilford, an outreach and education campaign. Visit their website at www.HeatSmartCT.org/ Guilford, to arrange for a home energy check-up and to learn about efficiency suggestions such as LED bulbs and heat- pumps. Income eligible homeowners & renters may quality for a FREE home energy audit and improvements, so please sign before the winter is upon us. SSILL PROGRAM: SSILL Fall Catalog, is available at the Guilford Community Center. Registration will begin on Wednesday, September 1st. The SSILL Fall term begins on Tuesday, September 14th at 9:30 a.m. at the Guilford Community Center, with an open house and reception, followed by a concert by the U.S. Coast Guard Harp, Flute Duo and Clarinet Quartet. Non-members are welcome to attend the open house & concert but you must sign up in the office.

A group of seniors from the shoreline area that like to have fun and get exercise are looking for bowlers for a casual bowling league that plays at Circle Lanes in East Haven on Tuesdays at 12:00 noon. Thursday September 9 We will resume our fun popular Mystery Ice Cream trips in September. We will head to a quaint Connecticut town on the Connecticut River to grab a frozen treat of your choice. You will Mystery Ice Cream then have an hour to explore some of the cute shops, take a short stroll and enjoy your ice cream with a great view of the beautiful river or make a quick visit to one of the Town’s museums.
