Swanage and Wareham RFC Core Values

Mission Statement. Swanage and Wareham Rugby Club has adopted five core values as representing its ethos and how it wishes its playing and non playing members to behave, on and off the field. The core values are TEAMWORK, RESPECT, ENJOYMENT, DISCIPLINE AND SPORTSMANSHIP. We believe these values represent the fellowship and fair play which will lead the Club to ongoing success at all levels in the true spirit of the game. The club believes that the enjoyment of taking part in Rugby Union is far more important than a win at all costs attitude. The club has produced a Code of Conduct, a Parent, Player and Spectator guide for the Mini and Youth Section, a Disciplinary Policy and a Action Plan to implement measures which will cement the Core Values into the everyday running of the club.

Code Of Conduct. This Code of Conduct applies to all members of the club, whether playing or non playing and irrespective of age. More detailed and additional information and guidance is available for parents, players and spectators involved in Mini and Youth rugby. This Code will be published in the club’s programme, its fixture book and on its website. Its contents will be reviewed annually. 1. Rugby is a team game. It is not about personal glory. 2. All club members should demonstrate loyalty to their team mates and to the club. 3. Remember that coaches, officials and administrators, unpaid, are vital to allow players to play the game. They deserve respect but you should not be afraid to make your views known to those who run the club, in a polite way. 4. Play because you want to. 5. Behave towards visiting teams and supporters in such a way that they will enjoy their visit to Bestwall irrespective of the result. We want to maintain a reputation for excellent hospitality. 6. Applaud all officials and the opposition after the game. Make a point of mingling with opponents after the game. 7. Control your emotions. Verbal and physical abuse is not acceptable. The club’s disciplinary policy is displayed in the clubhouse and on the club’s website. 8. Remember that referees officiate through love of the game and, like you, they are not being paid. They deserve respect even if you think they have got it wrong.
